Computer specifications:
It's windows 7 there should be no problems at all concerning hardware, that i've allready checked. Directx 11, java, all drivers should be up to date(updated as of this weekend due to installing win 7)
Also i don't have this problem when running Civ 5, left 4 dead 2 or any other steam games.

Problem:

 When i start the game it says:

"performing first time setup...

Installing VC redistributal package (step 1 of 1)"

a windows window pops up starts configuring and then just stops(closes), and steam is stuck at the prior mentioned state. 

If i open the game directuly (not through steam) it will first show the menu with play, configure, uninstall etc. but as i press play the same problem occurs.

i've also tried to install VC manually, both the old version(2005) which steam tries to download and the newer version(2010) to no avail.

And lastly, i allways run it as admin, just in case

Edit: hmm it would seem i'm bothering you with something more steam related.

Ok i've solved the problem, so if anyone should get it here's what i did:
in /c:/program files/steam/steam apps/common/mass effect

There's a folder named something with vc in it(Can't remember as it's gone now)

Delete this and you should be able to play. Also you will most likely need to restart before you can delete the folder.
