She'd be saying "by the goddess" because after ripping his suit off like that the sudden drop in pressure caused the volus to explode. Messy.

Humans are probably even more problematic to deal with than most species. The codices and the games seem to indicate that other species don't have much variation in culture, at least not large enough to cause tension if you don't see it.

Hell Earth is still divided into nations, each with its own languages, cultures, and appearences.

That's true. The council races have had thousands of years to form their own species-wide cultures. Humans put up a united front with the Alliance, but I wonder how united they truly are. At least those new translators have gotten us past the language barrier.

The difficulty of dealing with humans in general may also be a cause of some of the resentment for us. Other new races usually have to take the time to settle in before gaining any power, and the rest of the galactic community gets used to their particular quirks over a longer period of time. However in our case, we went from being complete newcomers to having a council seat in record time.

If there's a single greatest stumbling block for culture shock on all sides, I'd be willing to bet it's from how similar we seem to the Asari. So we got a different skin tone. And our head-ridges are less uniform 'hair.' And we aren't all biotics. And we don't quite have that uniform democracy thing down yet. And half of us have a lack of good bumps and a disgusting bump down there.

But in a lot of ways, Humanity seems like a younger, half-based version of the Asari. And they probably base a lot of assumptions off of them.

(Cue Biotic Asari Supremacist/racist seeing rest of species as not-worthy, and humans in particular as half-Asari.)

So we found out the reason why the Reapers are after Humanity.  They want a head full of hair.  Image IPB

Yeah, that "we don't evolve now" stuff is nonsense too.  Allele frequencies still change in the human population.  Besides which, totally aside from whether the explanation is accurate (as it stands, it's actually just one of many hypotheses about human hairlessness), we lost our body hair long, long ago.

The reapers will gain allies among these fine folks

We must find Bobobo to help stop the hair hunt and reapers.

Interesting. And you'd think that it's a lot more likely for mammals to become intelligent, not amphibians, lizards and... monogendered blue things. Alright, no the asari kinda make sense. But the rest don't. Not really a problem seeing how that's what many imagine aliens to be, but still... Mammals are more advanced than non mammals. Generally.

Well, they are on the earth. But that's just one ecosystem. Also, technically I don't think any other aliens actually fit into our taxonomy. They're described as "amphibians" or what have you, but it would probably be more accurate to describe them as "amphibian-like". For instance, I believe all known amphibians are cold-blooded, while the Salarians are warm blooded. Expanding conventional taxonomy beyond earth doesn't make a lot of sense.

It's possible that warm-bloodedness and live-birth contribute to societal formation, and thus to intelligence. Most of the other sentient races seem to share these qualities (except the Salarians), which are ones we commonly associate with mammals on earth.

But no, there's no reason to think that "hair" (which is the only mammalian attribute that other sentient races do not seem to commonly share) would tend to make one more advanced than not having hair.

Mammals aren't somehow intrinsically better than non-mammals.  Our branch of life ending up with greater neurological complexity wasn't a given.  That's just how things worked out.  While various mammalian traits, like having a neocortex, certainly provided a good opportunity for evolution to take advantage of, they aren't a requirement for intelligence in any absolute sense.

Even more interesting:

Some Asari have eyebrows. Some don’t. Are they born with or without? Or does it vary based on the individual?
Actually, they aren’t eyebrows at all. They are unique color patterns that vary for every Asari. We, being humans, naturally associate those particular markings with eyebrows, but the Asari don’t think of them in that way at all.

They can dye it, but cutting off their tenticles would be akin to cutting off toes, really. They don't grow like hair.

Ease up on the ellipses man.

In any case I don't rememeber the advertisement talk about cutting their tentacles, I remember them talking about biotic scalp treatment though.

Greatly their scalp actually sounded more akin to getting a facelift than a haircut.
