I've played both as a Warrior with templar specialization and a mage with Blood Magic specialization, and my companions don't seem to notice.  I would expect Anders to comment on both, and fenris to comment on the blood magic.  It just doesn't make sense to me when my companions are giving merril a hard time for using a LITTLE blood magic, but when hawke stabs herself through the chest or steals health from them, it's like nothing happened.

Yep, it's pretty disappointing. For the most part, it was the same way in Origins though. People would go on about how vile and evil blood magic was, but nobody said a word when you started gushing blood to cast Blood Wound or something.

Blood Mage has been discussed before, as far as I remember somebody stated that there's a, uh, artistic license not to limit your specialization (short story: nobody cares :D). RP-wise, you can have Hawke opposing Blood Magic and still use it... riii-ght.

Templars are explained in the Specialization's tool-tip, I'll copy/paste from DA Wiki:
"Though the Chantry controls the lyrium trade, those with the right connections can acquire enough to emulate the abilities of these vigilant warriors."
If I got it right, you're not really a Templar (after all, you've never enlisted or been ordered one), just a copycat, if you want. So, perhaps this is why nobody really cares, though Templars should be quite pissed at you for stealing their skills. Yeah, "should be"

[edit: in Origins, you can point out you're a Templar twice, once when Alistair talks about uniforms and then during Unrest in the Alienage, chatting with the Templar Ser Otto who gives you a quest]

Anders: "I will follow you if I must, but don't think that your use of blood magic goes unheeded."

Fenris: "Huh! mages, you're all alike."
Merril: ""

An hour and a lot of dead mobs later...

Anders: "Oh hello Hawke, I want to apologize about before, I did not realize that you were simply testing different spells variations."

Fenris:
"Yes, it is.. reassuring. If only I knew that Maker's Sigh allows you to do that my thoughts about mages would have been different."

Merril: ":("

True, but there was only one instance that I am aware of that could illicit a comment from anyone about the protagonist being a blood mage, and you had to meet a very specific set of criteria. If you didn't, nobody ever said a word about it.

Uh, there are two possible instances that come to mind, one with Jowan and one with Wynne. Or maybe even the Connor part if you've recruited Templars and thus can't enter the Fade. Just speculating and guessing, though.
I played mage only once in more than fifteen playthroughs to have an Amell Warden to import, and I didn't happen to have that conversation (though being a Blood Mage/Spirit Healer).

I'd love a scene when Anders catches you trying to huff some lyrium on the sly.

If there is any incident with Jowan in which the protagonist being a blood mage is explicitly mentioned, I am not aware of it.  Even during the scene with Jowan, Connor, and Isolde, nothing you do that I know of gets any response about you being a blood mage.  There are just some general comments about how evil blood magic is.

The one time anyone says anything about you specifically being a blood mage is in the Tower with Wynne.  Again, that's the only one I know of.  If there are more I've never seen them or heard of them.

Oh, wild guessing sometimes works^^
Thanks for the explanation, I only got Wynne to attack me when I mentioned Morrigan being an apostate (I never recruit the old hag anyway, so no big deal ^_^), and I wasn't playing a mage. Something to keep in mind if I'll ever run Origins again - love it but I played it too many times.

I think it would be interesting if they would comment about them, like Anders interrogating you about learning templar techniques, or someone mentioning that Isabella was teaching dueling to Hawke. You should even be able to ask Merrill, Isabella, Anders, or one of the Templars to teach them to you.

Imagine what Meridth would say if you were a blood mage I think it would go something like this ...

Meridith: So you are a blood mage?
Hawke: No
Meridith: Then why are there scars on your wrists?
Hawke: Um ... um ... I'M EMO

It was initially implemented in DA:O where if u did the Circle of Magi quest and u were a blood mage, Wynne would call you on it in front of Irving and Gregoir. You had to have extremely high coercion to convince them otherwise, if not they would eventually just sigh and tell you, "Blood magic is bad, no exceptions, not even if you are a Grey Warden." and then attack you.

I wished that wasn't taken out.

Hawke:...So... The weathers' so nice lately
Fenris: What did u heared about me, Cullen?
Merrill: Why is only me? Y_Y they just poke me beacause of my inocent blood magic

The same reason they don't in Origins? I think the only power set that anyone would even care about would be Blood Magic, and who is to say you should be relentlessly called a maleficarum just because you dabble at little bit. I would like a small nod towards followers knowing you are a blood mage but choose not to speak on it, a side comment from Varric at some point after becoming more advanced into the spec would be the most I would ever want. Aren't we lectured enough already in both games about blood magic to know its taboo?

Well In Awakening, you have a conversation with Anders where, if you make him a blood mage, he talks about the templars, and says something along the lines of 'they shouldn't tar all mages with the same brush, just because a few are blood mages", to which you can respond, "but you are a blood mage" and he says "well yes, I am now". Thats the only major blood magic reference I found in Awakening.

I thought it was hilariously ridiculous how my Blood Mage could be BFFs with Fenris, who was constantly carping on at Merrill for using Blood Magic, when my mage ripped health from him whenever she got in trouble in battle.

You might already know this, but I'm pretty sure that in Origins, when you converse with Alistair about him being a Templar, he makes it pretty clear that he left before getting addicted to the lyrium, and that you can perform Templar skills without being addicted.  I don't remember the dialog, but I also thought there was speculation that the Chantry gets the Templars addicted as a means of control.

So if your Hawke is huffing lyrium and saying it's necessary for the Templar skill tree, then you might want to be concerned about your Hawke.  Has your Hawke been spending more and more time at the Hanged Man?  In Darktown?  Lyrium is the gateway drug to Corrupted lyrium, you  know.  Intervention time!

Meredith to Hawke: I'll over look your own use of magic this time.

That would've been the same response to a party with BM Hawke, Merrill, and glowing Anders. And what about Fenris? He's glowing too. No templars find that strange? :|

Then in Act 3 Meredith completely forgets about it. She DID threaten Anders though saying that the only thing protecting him was his friendship with Hawke. Meaning... Hawke and all her buddies are untouchable!
