I really hate Anders. I leave him out whenever possible. My answer to no healing is massive dps and a few potions. In my current play through (as a mage) I'm trying to see if I can set up and then double cross the mages and side in the end with the templars so I can seize control of the city for myself >

For me, the healing is not a big issue regarding Anders as DA2 shifted focus from "need a healer" to "ok to have a healer". Through some uses of threat and other ability management, potions can get by.
However, I do agree with the OP as I want to have Haste, Heroic Aura and the glyphs on to supplement my warrior/rogue party. Anders being the only mage having Creation tree forces me to bring him along every encounter. Personally, I do not agree with his views and so not very keen on bringing him around.
As much as I like the idea of giving Merrill a Creation tree, that would defeat the purpose of her niche for my (and I am sure, many others) party as I position her as a damage/control mage.
New companion anyone?

It's certainly possible to go nightmare wo/ Anders. It will just be more expensive (potions) and not having haste sucks.
