So I finially beat DA2 as a mage and I never unlocked any ability that summoned giant arms to rip a guy appart. Was that just for fun in the trailer or is there a way to actually get that ability?

That ability is Crushing Prison. Sometimes, when you kill an ogre with an upgraded Crushing Prison, you'll get that deathblow animation.

are you sure? there arent many boss fights with ogres and why did they limit that specific spell/finisher in such a horrible way? and why did they no involve the learning of blood magic in the story mode. i really love the game but some of its flaws are really irritable. i didnt play dragon age origins or awakening but i love the trailer for this game and after finishing it once i am going at it again. but why such a horrible mechanics in one of the most attractive quality of the game? and why did they make the champion armor so late in the game? why cant you get it before the fight with the arishok.? then this game makes the trailer really down.

are you sure? i used crushing prison on many enemies, neither in the description or anything it states demons or anything related to demons in the in game description of the spells. how can you confirm when there is i suppose a total of 1 or 2 max ogre fights? does it happen only in cutscenes or can you perform it during normal gameplay?

Crushing Prison's damage must be higher than the remaining health of the target Ogre.
