Yeah, just recently started playing BG2 (No, haven't played the first one) and I have a couple of questions

-Unless I go to the actual menus (Wizard, priest etc.), the skills don't show any tooltips. How can I enable them? Combat is ridiculously hard when I don't know what I am casting.
-Is there any way to get a larger resolution than 800x600? I am unable to play fullscreen atm.
-I'm playing a berserker, fighter. How important is constitution and dexterity? No builds pelase, just give me a general direction on where I should put my points.
-Charisma. Does it affect dialogue or what?
-What does "Core Rules" mean? It just mentioned AD&D or something, but I have no idea what that means. I still chose that difficulty, as it seems to be the real "normal".
-Is the only way to "recharge" spells to rest? Do characters regenerate?
-When I use a formation, it sometimes throws a "squishy" in the front line. How can I change this?
-What is with Minsc's gerbil fetish?

Sorry, a lot of questions. And probably many idiotic ones too, but I'd appreciate some answers.
Edit: Figured the resolution from config.

-You can change the timer in the options menu for the "help wizard" tooltips. You need to have the cursor hovering over the icon or object for a certain period of time before the tooltip will display. You can always force the tooltip to immediately display by pressing Tab when the cursor is over the button or object.

-The configuration executable should have been installed along with the game, and will allow you to toggle on the unsupported resolutions (1024x768 is the largest resolution that also has art assets). You can scale to most any resolution using the widescreen mod available at gibberlings3.net.

-Strength is important, giving you extra damage on your melee attacks. Constitution mostly just gives you increased hit points, and Dexterity increases your default armor class bonus (making it harder to hit you). Neither affect saving throws (and remember that 2E uses a lower armor class for better armor, so you want to eventually be into negative numbers). Strength is primary, followed by Constitution and then Dexterity. Intelligence and Wisdom are not essential.

-Charisma is used only in some dialogues, and it (along with reputation) can modify some store prices (higher Charisma can get lower prices, but it usually needs to be in the 20s to really matter). Don't bother.

-Core Rules is fine. It should tell you mostly what the differences are. You get hit. You take damage. You die. Spells function normally. Everybody does normal damage. Stuff like that.

-You need to rest to recover your spells. You can choose which spells to memorize, and then you rest to restore the memorization when depleted. Regeneration is possible only with very high Constitution (don't bother), and you'll eventually have plenty of items to choose from that will grant some health regeneration. Healing potions and cleric spells are a must for restoring health and removing poisons and diseases.

-Not sure. You can choose from more formations by right-clicking on any formation button (there are 12 to choose from), but you can't modify their behaviors.

-Minsc is brain-damaged (this will become apparent through the game). He believes his hamster is a miniature-giant space hamster (from the AD&D Spelljammer space setting), and he thinks he can communicate with it (but it's just a normal hamster, and he really can't).

Thanks a lot, helped really :D

One extra question:
What are the penalties from straying away from ones alignment?

None. If your reputation gets too low, bad things can happen (your good and neutral NPCs complain and leave; store prices go way up; and guards and mercenaries will occasionally show up to try to end your villainy), and you can lose your paladin or ranger status at a couple places in the game, but other than that, it's mostly irrelevant (there are a couple dialogue and quest paths that will play differently depending on alignment, but it truly doesn't make much difference). (With a high rep, store prices go down, but your evil party members will leave forever if it gets too high.)

Very few! The only exceptions to this are:
1-At the end of SoA there will a series of "tests". If a good aligned character flunks even one of them you can suddenly find yourself becoming evil Image IPB

2-Another type of  penalty is that if your party's reputation becomes too high, your evil NPCs will quit in disgust, and similarly if it becomes very low your good NPCs will do the same thing.

3- Stores give cheaper prices to goody, goody parties. But you can always rob widows and orphans when no one else is around to improve your cash flow Image IPB

But in general alignment  is just not important in SoA as long as you avoid extremes. Only a Lawful Good paladin has to be a little careful.

Don't druids need to be always neutral, and rangers always good?

Rangers have to be good. Druids have to start neutral, but it doesn't matter after that.

Really, there's only one place in the game where your alignment can change. I don't remember the mechanics of falling; I think it may have to be explicitly scripted (it doesn't happen automatically with alignment changes), so it only happens in the stronghold and then at the end of the game, but only for one or two of the challenges unless you've installed a fixpack.

Since he's playing a berserker, the only thing he needs to worry about is having some of his party members walk off because of reputation.

When you pick a formation the game assigns spots in the formation based on the order of the character portraits on the right side of the screen; if you left click and drag those portraits in the main game screen you can re-order them.  Play around with it and you should be able to find an arrangement where your squishies aren't up front.

Also, when you look at the different patterns of formations there is a dot that's darker or looks different from the rest, that's where it will put your main character.

Thanks!

What ways are there to kill a troll? Aside from not feeding it?

Fire and acid. Got it.

Is there any armor a wizard/mage/whatever can use without her/his spells being disabled by it?

When a party member dies, is it permanent or is somewhere a secret trick for waking them?
I really want to kill Nalia.

Been two years since I did play the last BG game but I'll answer your questions.

Not in Baldur's Gate 1. Now in Baldur's Gate 2 Eleven Chain Armor. Please note this is 2nd edition the game is playing on so wearing that piece will be able to allow that class to cast spells.

Unless it's minus -10 or they explode than they can revive. The first game people were purposely killing off Khalid so Jaheira doesn't leave. Trust me back in the day people were killing off Khalid just to keep Jaheria in the party. As for Nalia yeah you can let her die via critical hit IE gib splattering so she never returns.

I do hope it helps.

So how does the reviving works? I just see my buddies have their bodies disappear and they leave all their stuff behind, but the icon still can be seen (grey though) in the right side.

If their icon is still present (although greyed out) they can be raised by a cleric or druid. If you have that spell in your party you can cast it at the dead party member yourself.
Otherwise, pick up the fallen comrades gear and head to the nearest temple. the priest will charge you to raise your friend.

Ressurect works the same way but restores your comrade with full hp.
There is also a druid spell called, 'Harper's Call' that works similar to the Raise Dead spell.

(If the party member takes enough damage to take them to -10 hp they cannot be raised. They die in a gruesome fashion, splattering chunks of flesh everywhere, and their portrait disappears,)

Most arcane casters won't use armor (multi- or dual-class casters could use elven chain much, much later in the game, but you can usually find better bracers of defense that give you a low base AC). You'll eventually have access to the spells Stoneskin, Protection from Normal Weapons, and Protection from Magical Weapons. These will make you more or less invulnerable to most physical attack while the protections are up. But in general, you're not going to want your casters really within melee range of anybody. Don't put them in armor; run away instead!

and even before the spells that devSin mentioned are available, a good lower level buff group includes Shield, Mirror Image, Blur, and Improved Invisibility (all level 4 and below) which will give you and effective AC of 2 - 3 -4 = -5 before dex bonus and you still have to punch through all the mirror images to hit.
