Dwarf Commoner Warden first then Shepherd, I've not been able to really connect with any of the Hawkes I've played through.

Don't know if it's because the warden was a non-human and really delving into the backstory/culture prompted a lot of thinking about what that kind of life would do to someone (which was sorely missed with Hawke), the more nuanced dialogue choices, or simply the vast amount of time spent playing the character.

Shepard(s).

Although many feel that they identified with their Warden better... after experiencing Hawke's story, I have to say that the Warden's story wasn't all that powerful unless you pursued a romance... perhaps with one of the more important characters in the story. The potential story paths were certainly more varied, but I wouldn't say that they really affected the Warden personally very often. There wasn't really anything of the Warden's to treasure besides companions and loot, hence the fan threads for companions and the outcry at the loss of items for Awakening.

All three, equally. :D

And if threre's a new protagonist in DA3, I'll probably get just as attached. :wizard:

Shepard, Hawke, Warden. I prefer DA:O to DA2, but I felt more connected to Hawke.

I'm not talking about the games, just the main characters here, keep that in mind...

But, for me, it's Hawke (female, sarcastic personality is pure gold), then Shepard (again female, mostly because she's around since years), and dead last the Warden - it's just a string puppet I direct.
Note, that for roleplaying purposes the Warden is the best, it's an empty vessel I have to fill. But because of that, it's no personality I can feel any kind of attachment to. Compared to Shepard or Hawke, those have their own personality, regardless of my own input.

Warden.

He's the only character I was free to roleplay and craft. I'm closer to each of my Wardens than I was to any of my Shepards or Hawkes.

For me it was Hawke > Warden > Shepard.

I got the most attached to Hawke because the system gave me enough freedom that I felt like Hawke was "my" character, but gave the character enough personality of her own that she still felt like her own character. The Warden was "my" character, too, But due to her being the only character that wasn't voiced and in general didn't have much expression, I was much more aware of her as a puppet that I was controlling from the other side of the screen, which jarred me a little.

Shep I'm the least attached to--I still like my Shep, but I felt much more stuck into "one morality or the other" play than I did with the other two characters, and I'm much more prone to write "normal person in extraordinary circumstances" type of stories than "hardened space marine badass", which Shep is stuck in due to Mass Effect's plot. The DA series is much more about characters coming out of humble beginnings into greatness, so I'm attached to them more by default.

All my Wardens. Then femShep ME 1.

No attachment to Hawke. She's someone else's toy I get to play with for a while.

The warden by far. Then Hawke. I haven't been able to get into the ME games so poor Jane Shephard lags far, far behind.

From Bioware style games?

Exile>Revan>Spirit Monk>Warden>Shepard/Hawke (yes I hate the dialog wheel that much)

Shepard comes of as way too arrogant/macho, Hawke's snarky remarks make me want to backhand him.
(never tried fem versions)

Looks at sig.
Warden by far, then Hawke then Shephard. The only reason I choose Hawke over shep is the smoking jacket.

Whereas I think those two things are mutually exclusive.  He's either my character or he is not; there's no middle ground.

To me, my warden comes first. I don't know if it is because Dragon Age Origins was the first Bioware game that I've played, or because the warden was not a voiced character (thus I could imagine her with my voice, and speaking with the intended inflection), or maybe just because DAO is a longer game, or perhaps it's due to the fact that we actually see the warden's backstory (instead of only hearing about it, like in Shepard's and Hawke's case), but I got really attached to the warden. I even started writing a fanfic about her, a thing I've never done before.

I also love both my Shepard and my Hawke. I actually love both Shepard's and Hawke's voices, I guess what really bothers me is the fact that we have paraphrases in the dialogue wheels, instead of the "actual phrase", so, even with the addition of the icons, more than once my character said something that I didn't mean to say (sometimes they said the exact opposite!) and when that happened it broke my immersion. That's one of the reasons I saved often, so that if something like that happened I could load the previous file and try again until I found the option that would fit perfectly.
One thing, though, that I like more about both Shepard and Hawke in comparison to the Warden is the character creator. With Hawke I've finally been able to create a character that looked almost exactly like me.

Definitely my first Warden! I put myself into her, and thus she was, mentally, 'me in Thedas'.

Perhaps it's having a voice. Perhaps it's the script. I don't know (and I'm not crusading for, or against, either one). But Shepard and Hawke seemed to already have so much 'persona', that I wasn't required to provide one for them... and, thus, I never had to really put myself INTO them. Due to that, I didn't form nearly as much of an attachment as I did to my Warden. They were characters I played... not characters I created.

My Warden

I actually don't even think much about Bioware's Shepard and Hawke. I don't find them interesting enough to enjoy - and I don't find them personal enough to embrace.

I love them all! but my shepherds edge it as we've been through two games together and I know there's more to come, I just love importing my new sheps into ME2.
I'll probably never get to play my Wardens again so my connection to my Wardens fades.

I'll be happy to continue some adventures with Hawke, so long as Fenris can come along... tbh it's the companions that I like the most - Kaiden, Thane, Garrus, Zevran, Shale, Fenris and Isabella being my personal favourites (in no particular order. see sig for overall favourite :D)

First my Warden, because, like many others already said, he was "me" in Thedas.

Then Hawke - who has the very irritating habit of say something entirely different from what I actually choose for him to say - and the, lastly, Shepard.
