"For the biting wit and delicious sarcasm I find abundant in Futonrevolution's comment I herby propose that Futonrevolution be appointed as writer in chief for DA 3 all in agreement say aye 01:16, April 12, 2011 (UTC)"
The gauntlet has been thrown; I am honor-bound to start banging away on a script that no one will publish!
Let's start out with the main plot teaser, a few changes in game mechanics back to things BioWare excel at, and a teaser for one of the nine sketched-out companions (Defensive Tank, Offensive Tank, DW Warrior, 2H Warrior, DW Rogue, Archer Rogue, DPS Mage, Healbot, and Utility Mage).
- Unspoiled Main Plot teaser -
"Without an end, there can be no peace."
Orlais denies involvement in the rebellion giving new meaning to the Nevarran Blasted Hills, while its Chevaliers claim innocence in the disappearances of its scholars. Nor does it understand how the Dalish sarcastically-named "Blessed March" upon the Dales has had so much early success or the increasingly erratic proclamations by the Black Divine.
The only common thread seems to be powerful artifacts placed into the hands of those who should not have them: weapons supposedly crafted from a strain of lyrium that scholars claim is impossible... much like those stories of "Tevinter" ruins in the Brecilian Forest where humans and elves lived as equals, primeval thaigs that predate the Memories, and that Kirkwall was originally a blood-fueled archeological dig. Laughably, the only ones taking these historical fictions seriously are the Qunari, muttering silly fairy tales about boogeymen called the Fex. Who could have guessed that they were so gullible? Maybe we can scare them away from Thedas by threatening to release the dreaded Schleets upon them!
- Examples of Mechanics Changes -
- Dragon Age: Legends shows that BioWare can do turn-based combat and do it amazingly well. Hybridization only provides gameplay that other companies have more experience doing. Similar to games like "Blood Bowl," offer the option between realtime arcade-action with ME2 3rd person over-the-shoulder cameras and tactical turn-based with isometric camera. I believe that the engine can handle both without having to code them separately.
- Modified Lock-Bash: when a Rogue offers to unlock something, they do it, and a Tactics option for "Trap: Detected" behavior.
- Two blank skill tree slots to allow for multi-classing and avoid the limited DA2 cookie-cutter classes. This makes Strength-based Rogues, Dual-Weapon Warriors, Arcane Warriors and most anything else you please, available without console commands.
- Friendly Fire option.
- Self-contained areas for the Main and Major Quests. If one can't be finished in time or is lacking, combine it with another area or scrap it.
- No extended hours-long Fade or Deep Roads quests, but 20-30 minute chunks spaced throughout the narrative to vary the gameplay.
"I swore to serve and protect my liege with my life. Treachery and politics took me from their side and I could only do nothing, as the one I loved was consigned to death. I swore to serve and protect my wife and child. The Battle of Denerim stood between my stall and my family, our life swallowed whole by a darkspawn tunnel. But, you... you, I can protect. Nothing will steal me from your side or drive me away, not even yourself. I will always be your man."
Of the two tanks, Gorim is the more defensive-minded. Similar to Aveline, he specializes in Damage Resistance and Damage Transfer, buffing squishy party members with his sustained abilities. Slower than the offensive tank, due to his injuries, he plays nice. The off-tank increases his threat rating, maneuvers baddies into a bubble around him, far from the party and ready for AoE attacks; Gorim lowers others' threat rating, intercepts baddies, and sets them up for Cone attacks & backstabs.
So... overly ambitious? Yes, but many of the elements can be stripped away without any great loss. Poorly written? Yes, but it can only go up from here. Comment or not, but the most important thing is prodding me into staying on task and working more quickly.
