does it make a difference if you let bartrand live or not? i think the friendship/ rivalry numbers change for some of the characters, but i'm wondering if he comes up later in the story if he lives... or if you miss any quests by killing him off. i've just reached this section-- played once where varric shoots him and once where hawke guilts varric into getting bertrand locked up. there was a 3rd variation, i think, where hawke says "don't shoot" then changes her/his mind--i didn't try that one. i am reluctant to go forward 'til i have an idea of the repercussions. any multiple-play-thru folks have any advice? thanks!
bartrand choice in act 2? (spoiler)

It depends on whether Anders is in the party.
Kill Bartrand: +friendship with Varric
Let Bartrand live: +rivalry with Varric
Anders cleanses Bartrand's mind + Kill Bartrand: +rivalry with Varric
Anders cleanses Bartrand's mind + Let Bartrand live: +friendship with Varric
It has no real further impact on the story, aside from Varric saying that he's in a sanitarium. Or dead.

Though the drawback to him being alive is Varric thinking he may some how be able to cure him which appears not likely.

I've done all the ways on this one and it doesn't come back in this game except during a brief conversation in Act 3 where either Varric mentions his brother doesn't need a house because he's mad or because he's dead. Might be an issue later if the next game carries over decisions but that's anyone's guess.

If Bartrand is alive, Varric's Act III quest (The ending) will be different. Or his motivation, rather.
