That's a real shame, with a good engine and improved fighting mechanics (mechanically mixing between God of War and Arkham Asylum has a lot of potential) I think a new Jade Empire game could be a BIG hit.

ZOMG!!! *squeee*

If there is really a Jade Empire 2, I'm going to jump up and down in excitement! I really hoped Bioware would have a sequel, and now there's a higher chance it will be.

when i read that (read before i saw this threat)

i was instilled with rage, espeically this line (i still am)
"However, following BioWare's purchase by Electronic Arts in 2007, it
appears that the sequel didn't make the cut when compared to the
Canadian studio's other hot properties."

we still get recycled sports games year after year, but we can't have a sequel to a well recieved and glorious game?

Yeah, based on the original story at Gamebanshee that was my conclusion too. A shame, really. I would love a Jade Empire sequel. Thankfully Jade Empire's story had satisfying closure. At least I can still return to it and savor my memories of a fine gaming experience.

The more games BioWare makes, the more money they can put into their collective piggy bank.

Well, as long as Bioware still holds the rights to the franchise, they may choose to revisit it one day down the track. As Seagloom said, however, the first JE wrapped everything up quite nicely, so I wouldn't be too crushed if a sequel was never released.

JE franchise is a solide one. I don't know how big it is compare to ME and DA but there is alot of potential. The more experience they get from ME and DA the the better will be JE 2.

By the way check this out

Argh! I would really hate it if there is no JE 2, I always wanted to play the first JE but didn't have an Xbox luckily I downloaded it on Xbox live a few weeks ago.

I wouldn't understand it if there wouldn't be a sequel, the game looks beatifull and it feels great to play even by todays standards. There have been plenty of crappy games and sequels, but JE definitly wasn't a crappy game so it deserves a sequel.

Or at least some sort of spiritual successor.

I think why there isn't any Jade Empire 2 is because sales of first one wasn't so good, was it under 1 million. Meaning if development of the game cost sertain amount and sales is too low, it's not so profitable. It isn't even is the game good, but how big is the customer base who does buys the product.

That would be a good outlet for all their "awsum combat! Awsum button!" needs. Melee action combat gameplay benefits from that approach, unlike pause-and-play party based gameplay.

If BioWare wanted a more action game RPG, JE would be the franchise to do it, not DA.

QFT. DA was fine the way it was, just needed some minor improvements. They should have saved JE for the button-mashing, action-loving crowd. I really hope JE comes back, the story and lore were so great, there's much potential for another great story.

The story of JE was tied up nicely, but whose to say that the Empire doesn't get into anymore trouble in the years to come? There could be more trouble from the spirit world with some demon being released or something.
Or there could be war with another country (like the one Sir Roderick Ponce von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard came from)

So yeah, if you ask me a sequel with another protagonist could still be made.

After witnessing the increasing quality of the games Bioware is releasing, giving this evolved treatment to the JE franchise would be groundbreaking. Bioware is even now one of the only developers to make a successful Martial Arts video game that is not an Arcade Fighter. Personally as a martial artist, JE held alot of meaning for me. I would hope to see a new version that really redefines what people would expect from a martial arts game.
