I want my Sheps to either live forever or be remembered forever and if imortality is out then "the saviour of the galaxy was lost to space exploration in 21XX" is just as good.

As for real estate options, Illium or Bekenstein. Prosperous, Libertarian, multicultural cosmopolitans. Also, plenty of crime to fight/bad guys to kill when her Claymore's barrel feels too cold.

But she'll settle down eventually, marry Kaidan and have a kid or two.

However that was far from the case. Using what little resources she still had, Miranda was able to repair Shepard a second time, though the damage was not nearly as extensive. Though successful, without Cerberus' resources it takes significantly longer.
Five years pass before Shepard returns to the galactic scene under a new identity. Liara has moved on, finally admitting her feelings toward Feron, though bearing Shepard's children. Shepard, happy for her, does not attempt to make contact with her. He leaves the Prothean orb he discovered during a mission, codenamed Firewalker, in her office. Shepard asks Feron never to tell her how it got there.
Shepard, whos injures have put his remaining lifespan in question, goes out for "one more tour of duty" as he liked to call it. With Miranda ever at his side, he revisited every world he had travelled to during his mission against the Reapers. He made sure to check in with his surviving friends, such as SpecTRes Kaiden Alenko and Jacob Taylor, clan Urdnot leader Grunt, Kolyat Krios, Blue Suns leaders Garrus Vakarian and Zaeed Messani, Justicar Samara, and Admirals Tali'zorah vas Normandy (SR2 retired, currently captain of Alliance built SR-3) and Legion vas Normandy (Geth reintegrating themselves into Quarian society, but as equals instead of slaves.)
His final stop is to Alchera, the final resting place of the SSV Normandy, his first ship. He and Miranda made their way to memorial he had placed many years before. He placed his hand on the cold metal of the monument and smiled. "A Captain goes down with his ship."
At that moment his heart failed, finally giving up to years of duress, Reaper influence and injury. Miranda single handedly buries his body next to the memorial, and sends an unmarked message to Councilor Anderson and Liara. The final resting place of Shepard, marked only by the scarred N7 helmet resting upon a stone, finally known. It is protected from tampering by Council, Omega and Alliance forces, and preserved for centuries by Alchera's climate and atmosphere. It is never disturbed.

Uriel Shepard: No retirement, stays a Spectre, continues to further human goals
Clare Shepard: Goes to work for her one true love, Liara
Quincy Shepard: Takes Jack and they become instructors at the Ascention program
Theodore Shepard: Virmire, Garden world, plenty of pirates, no end to the excitement.

Shepard is critically wounded during the final fight. He and Miranda are separated from the rest of the team and then trapped in some rubble. Despite her best attempts his lover Liara was unable to track down either his or Miranda's bodies. They were presumed dead for sometime.

No where. There isn't a home for Old Specters.
Sailing to Byzantium, William Butler Yeats:
THAT is no country for old men. The young
In one another's arms, birds in the trees
- Those dying generations - at their song,
The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas,
Fish, flesh, or fowl, commend all summer long
Whatever is begotten, born, and dies.
Caught in that sensual music all neglect
Monuments of unageing intellect.
An aged man is but a paltry thing,
A tattered coat upon a stick, unless
Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing
For every tatter in its mortal dress,
Nor is there singing school but studying
Monuments of its own magnificence;
And therefore I have sailed the seas and come
To the holy city of Byzantium.
O sages standing in God's holy fire
As in the gold mosaic of a wall,
Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
And be the singing-masters of my soul.
Consume my heart away; sick with desire
And fastened to a dying animal
It knows not what it is; and gather me
Into the artifice of eternity.
Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.

Not sure about retirement. But plan on knocking Liara up and leaving her at our home to provide intel as the shadow Broker while Shep, Tali and Garrus go off to do some DLC. Still bad guys out there to take care of you know.

I've always figured Shepard would be the type to fight until he dies. I don't ever see him retiring. There's always a war to fight somewhere.
