Is it new that a mage now doesn't attack anymore as soon as he's been hit? My mage just died on normal during the first quest in Kirkwall (killed the nobleman for the merc) because two rogues who spawned behind him attacked him. He couldn't do anything because every action was disturbed, i couldn't heal, attack or do anything else so as soon as my mage is being attacked by more than one rogue he's dead if nobody can help him. Well I just have to look out for him more, but that's gonna be a pain in the ass.

I can't remember having to deal with something like that before, but maybe it's not a bug, but a feature?
Am I imagining things? Or just can't remember having to deal with that before?

It's all about defense and fortitude. A warrior has a high fortitude which means he/she won't get disturbed if someone hit's him/her even if he/she loses an arm. A rogue have high dexterity which will give him/her a bit more defense (or maybe it's called avoidance in DAII). However a rogue with low fortitude will still stumble if he get's hit because he doesn't have loads of strength (which gives fortitude).

You might not have experienced it before since the lower the level you have the lower difference between your fortitude and the physical force of the attack. It's the difference which decides how easy you get pushed back.

So to answer your question, this is not a bug just a part of the game mechanic. You'll have to keep your mage secure or else he'll get pushed around by the enemies.

In RPG's generally your Mage/Cleric is a squshy character while they have high attributes in magic and can use powerfull spells they can't handle much in the way of damage. You need to set the right tactics so they stay out the way and don't get involved in melee attacks. Enemy rougues/asssasins try to sneak up on a mage so be carefull they can stagger you with a nasty kick and backstab you for high damage. Try giving your mage some defensive spells to counter it like rock armor and mind blast is great if your mage gets surrounded it will knock most enemies over so you can move your mage away.

If you say it was like that before the patch than I bet I just didn't realize it.
I was just a bit irritated since my first game was with a mage and he died 5 times during the whole game and all those deaths were during the arishok duel.
Still sucks since it was a low level and normal enemy and it took them maybe 2 seconds to kill my full health mage.
So I'll have to go for the 100 fortitude bonus force mage ability again ...
