It has been stated that the Dragon Age 'verse dwarves do not dream. So, has it ever been established why Shayle(who used to be a dwarf), Oghren, Sigrun, and Varric are able to enter what essentially a dream world?  Whether it was willingly, Varric, or not, the others mentioned, it still seems like a glaring inconsistency.

They have dreams normally, but don't go to the fade like others. They can however be pulled into the fade.

First, props for the Philip K. Dick reference (I wonder if the filter will get his last name?)

Second, they don't go into the Fade when they dream, but they can be pulled their through magic. Oghren's pretty upset by it in Awakening, actually, since he's never been there before (unless he also got trapped during the Circle Tower quest in Origins). As for whether they dream independently of the Fade, I don't know if that's ever been answered. We don't know fully how dreaming works in Thedas. Perhaps they have normal dreams like us. Perhaps they don't dream at all.

Their magic /lyrium resistance blocks them entering the fade while they dreamas the others said they can bep ulled in through other means...

However I do believe that at one point Dwarfs even where able to cast magic themselves...

They do dream. Most questions can be answered by this post that Gaider did a while back.

The Philip K. Dick reference pulled me in. Great subject line.

Wonder if that "idol" has anything to do with Dwarves not going into the fade?

Thanks, I missed this somehow. It's interesting because I assumed it always had to do with their magic resistence. Now I know I had it backwards and I'm curious.

I feel victim to the awesome thread title too. Good job OP.

On topic, I doubt the idol has much of anything to do with anything Dwarven anymore. The Gaid said that they can mine lyrium so well because they can't enter the Fade. So it'd stand to reason that lyrium has nothing to do with it.. unless it's some kind of weird cycle.

OMG!! The Warden is a Repli... Golum. :)

On a more on-topic note, dwarves can not use magic, genlocks are created from dwarf stock, yet the most intelligent and skilled genlocks can and do use magic, and to good effect.  Is this magic purely because of the darkspawn taint, which Avernus has already discovered has the potential for amazing power, or does the conversion process of a dwarf woman into a brood mother create a link to the fade that her offspring can use to draw on magical abilities?

If it is just the taint, could it be possible for a dwarf Gray Warden to become a mage of sorts as well?
