This. The big differences that I can see between the ME2+3 team and the DA2 dev crew is that the former seems to have a clear sense of their goals and what they want Mass Effect to be.

Dragon Age seems to have been somebody trying to make Mass Effect 2 in Dragon Age without understanding what made Origins or Mass Effect 2 a success.

Exactly. The team behind ME3 knows what they want and what the game needs to improve without losing the identifiable details. They have for quite some time now.

And thanks to that They don't have to come up with soem vague continuation Likkity split like DA 2s team did (a year was simply not enough)

ME2 is still an RPG. You talk to people, you make decisions, you have character development.

Halo has all those things.
It is not an RPG.

What are you smoking? Halo has a plot that's completely linear and you as a player informing a character have no onus whatsoever on any descision Master Chief makes. You are constantly told what to do, so NO you do not make descisions in Halo.

Talking to people- again no. You have no control over the speech options, even yes or no, in any of them. Sure there are conversations between NPCs, but you the player controlling your avatar - no.

Character development. Sure I guess, but not nearly on the same level as even a crappy RPG.

Again. What are you on? Is it E? Red Sand? What?

From the article:

It worked, with Mass Effect receiving incredible amounts of
praise and commercial success, while still packing in narrative depth
and extensive gameplay for the RPG fanatics.

Looooool.
I still dont know why Dragon Age II is bashed and Mass Effect 2 is praised.Dragon Age 2 is a better game in nearly every way except the graphics.

It's purely a matter of opinion, Tonnactus. 'Better' and 'worse' are very relative words, more especially in this case. I think the article does a good job summing up people's concerns about ME3 (and DA2, for that matter). It's only a question of how BioWare is going to respond.

I don't see any problem, the Mass Effect team and the Dragon Age team are separated, it was the DA's teams choice to change the game not ME's.

Personally, I loved DAO, DA2 and I like the writing team. I'm looking forward to DA3(unless Multiplayer is confirmed, then I will be sad).

I didn't enjoy ME2 that much and Arrival was lackluster. Even with the recent news of ME3 I'm still weary of the game.

Some of it is opinion(if its make a game better). That Dragon Age 2,with the amount of skills and attributes have a far deeper gameplay is it not.Just to name one example.Or the amount of partybanter(nearly zero in the "character driven" Mass Effect 2) that makes charcters actually alive and not puppets.

Decent read. My biggest problem with the ME franchise right now is how battles are set up. They are talking about large battlefields, so we'll see.

Enter room > cover everywhere > oh ok gonna battle.

So in that case we just have to keep the ME devs and DA devs separated somehow. Like explosive collars that go off if a member of one team gets within a distance of a member of the other team.

I should send this idea to EA employee management. I bet you they would love it.

I honestly can barely say I agree with the opinions in any of GamerRants Mass Effect articles, this one included. The way they talk about ME1 like it was perfect and that ME2 was "dumbed down" and that it was designed by Bioware not to improve upon the faults of ME1 but to cater ro the mass market and ignore the "loyal fans," I know that how so people feel, and thats fine, but they talk about it like is undisputed fact and that the definitions of depth, genre, and quality in games isn't completely subjective. Total nerd rage is what they're expressing, not rational thinking. I mean what's their response to someone like me who loved ME1, loves RPGs and considers them to be his favorite game type, is a hardcore gamer, and yet loves ME2 and considers it to be a better game than ME1 in almost every regard? I'm not even gonna get into the fact that some the things they imply about the differences between ME1 and 2 in regards to "story" and "exploration" are so highly exaggerated that they can just be said to be complet falsehoods and blatant lies used to further an obviously biased argument. Also the whole article is just irrelevant because anyone who's read the Game Informer article know that ME3 is taking steps to be a much more rich and deep game that while built form the foundation of ME2, will attempt to be more in line with the RPG grounded design of ME1. I couldn't be more excited about that, and Gamer Rant is just looking silly with their negativity. I don't play Dragon Age, but as far as I'm concerned the two have nothing to do with one another.

They say: "But what of those who prefer their RPGs to be deep, intellectual exercises that reward analytical decision making skills and potentially game-changing moral dilemmas?" But the next thing they talk about is inventory and guns.

I am DEEPLY INTELLECTUAL: I want to put a SCOPE in my gun.
