Title Update 1.02 - Planning and Prioritization

- Approval rating was a secondary check that the conversations in DAII were looking for to see if you had an active romance (or other stance) with characters from DAO+. In DAA, approval ratings were not being properly saved so any import from DAA on will have had all of those checks fail. Removing this half of the system will rely solely on the other check, which is whether you were in a romance or not with those characters.
- Nathanial Howe not appearing is being caused by an issue in DAA where if you left party members in Amaranthine they were considered dead by the prologue - this obviously transfered in to DA2. "If you don't allow Amaranthine to be destroyed companions who stayed at Vigil's Keep will be marked as dead in codex, even if they survived according to epilogue."
- The Leliana checks should fire properly when the approval rating is changed
- As for the Mourning/Consoling words issue, Matt2108 was pretty much dead on. Consoling Words should be working fine - Mourning however, which would have fired for both a dead and warden sibling, was cut from the game due to technical issues that were causing severe problems with Merrill's interactivity throughout the game. It is not a bug that it is not firing. I realize that is upsetting news; perhaps we'll look in to reintroducing it in the future.

*Whew!*
Am I understanding that correctly?

As far as I understood it, yes, that is correct. I'm more on the combat and balance side so I apologize if my terms and description are not 100% accurate or clear.
No need to apologize! I'm grateful for the response.
Was there a way for the Nathanial Howe problem to be fixed as well? I'm in the same boat as other folks where I left him at a fully upgraded Vigil's Keep in DAA and chose to save Amaranthine. The epilogue said he was alive, however DA2 does not trigger his quest as it should.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer questions!

Right now, I think your only course of action is to go back to DAA and not leave him at Vigil's Keep. Obviously this is not feasible for most people so we'll try to come up with a better solution but as it is an issue specifically with DAA+ reporting information incorrectly I'm not sure it's possible.
That's ok if it's not possible. I can live without Nathanial Howe showing up in my game. My main concern was the fact that DA2 didn't know I romanced Leliana in DAO.
That was a big deal for me since I'd like to continue carrying that decision forward in future installments of Dragon Age in case my Warden shows up again. :-D

thats still no excuse for them not working...and why cant they just go back and fix the problem in origins/awakening anyhow?
cause' then we'd have to go back and replay all of awakenings.

Thats a far better idea than doing nothing. I have a save right before i decide who to take with me to amaranthine and It wouldn't be very much work to replay the end plus the DLC after that.

But we don't know if that would even work. It could be a situation like the Isabela glitch where it isn't retroactive.
Regardless, there's still people that might be playing Awakening in the future, so I still don't see why they can't patch it.

What won't work? A rectroactive fix? Even if it isn't retroactive I would still bother to do it. I am still in the middle of Act 2 and if they fix the import problems by fixing awakenings then I would def play the end of awakenings again plus the DLC after that to fix DA2

Btw, about a month ago I went to play DA:O and it said my DLC was corrupted. So I updated the game on Xbox live and it solved the problem. The last time before that I played DA:O in December or November and I might have been connected to xbox live. My question is did Bioware update DA:O and its extra content between November of 2010 and April 2011, and if they did was the purpose to fix the import problems in DA2?
I believe the patch you are referring to is the Witch Hunt patch in prep for DA2. The game wasn't auto saving at the end and I believe they took some end game dialogue boxes out of Witch Hunt as well.

This post will serve as a summary of all posts in this thread which I will (hopefully) be able to keep up to date indefinitely.
Last time, there were lots of 'does Bioware know X? it isn't on the major issues list!' threads and posts so I'm going to try to list every single issue that gets raised here in an effort to alleviate this feeling and show that, as I kept saying, we are aware of everything that gets brought up on BSN.
--------------
Current issues, post 1.01:
General Issues
- Import Issues (Awakenings; re: Approval levels)
- Import issue with Zevran, Alistair and Morrigan (all)
- Olaf's Armory - Chest is invisible. Can still be interacted with, you just can't see it. (Act 3)
Companion Issues
- Carver goes from Grey Warden to Templar in act 3 during Best Served Cold hostage scene
- Isabela doesn't switch to her alternate outfit after the romance scene (requires using makers sigh to fix currently)
- Companions lose upgrades when they switch outfits
- Fenris' Dog conversation (Black Emporium) is not firing
- Merrill's 'Mourning' quest at the beginning of Act 2 is auto-completing. This quest is not supposed to be in the game so for now just disregard the message about it. (it does not affect your game at all)
- Varric's 'Friendly Concern' conversation trees are not firing for any LI except Anders currently
- Sebastian Vael - Despite having friendship maxed, his companion power does not show as active on his Abilities page (the bonus is working, however)
- Anders' rivalry dialog doesn't trigger (friendship instead) during endgame after the 'chantry part'
- Anders' Tevinter chantry amulet turn-in does not give the appropriate reputation modifier when in a rivalry
Quest Issues
- 'Who Needs Rescuing' quest still broken
- 'Sketchy on the Details' doesn't clear from the journal upon completion
- During 'Demands of the Qun' Aveline's guards are aggressive if you go to the docks at night
Combat Issues
- Varric's Disorienting Shot doesn't disorient (for more than a split-second)
- Modal abilities that should be exclusive are stacking if you toggle two of them on quickly
- Hawke can become immune to Injury occassionally
- Magic Resist is affecting Haste (causing the duration to be shorter, essentially resisting your own buff)
- Issues with Gravitic Ring under certain circumstances
Xbox360 Only Issues
- Epic achievement doesn't seem to fire without importing a DAO game (ie. doing two new playthroughs)
- Rare issues with the game freezing
Current issues that require new playthroughs (or older saves) in 1.01
- Slo-mo hawke (as well as other stat modifiers) are not retroactively fixed. The problem will not reoccur or get worse but whatever value you currently have will be stuck with you for now (there are many helpful threads about editting the save to manually fix the issue in the mean time)
- Aveline's 4th upgrade (Favor and Fault) will not appear if you've already entered the area once in Act 3 before applying the patch
So can we assume this is an unofficial patch change list? :-P

It's not a bug in the sense that it should have never been there in the first place. As for the actual reason why it isn't supposed to be in the game I can't comment on but I'll say that sometimes things get removed for whatever reason on purpose during development. Normally you just don't notice because there isn't a pesky quest update firing.
As for the Morrigan stuff, there is issues with flags moving from the DAO (+dlc) realm to DA2 but luckily there is NOTHING in DA2 that currently uses them so that aspect has no issues on your game right now so try not to worry about it
Ok cool, thanks Luke! I do realize that nothing in DA2 needs those flags but I'm just wondering if and DLC or future DA games will pull from the DA2 flags and not recognize my Warden's relationship is all. Maybe that won't be relavent moving forward into the DA-verse, but since it was such a big deal in DAO land, eventually something should be recognized plotwise, right? Oh well, guess we'll just wait and see what happens! Thanks again!
