I'm happy for people who like DA 2, that's great. And people shouldn't let the discussion of the game degenerate into personal insults.
That said, I don't like DA 2 for a big bag o'reasons. I'll save it for another thread though!

I just picked up DA2 a couple of days ago and I'm loving it. I love the combat change, so far I'm loving the character interactions, the banter, the dialogue, no more awkward-PC-Stare... I am, honestly, enjoying it more than DA:O.
So, here's one happy Bioware fanboy. Thanks for the great game, guys!
Many of the haters/defenders are downright silly, hating other people for their preferences. Taste is and will allways be varied, the name implies that allready. If you feel strong anguish towards one group or another, it probably is a good idea to step back, and think just how dumb that is.
That said, both camps do it. But otherwise, there is nothing to say against constructive criticism, as long as it is a discussion about the game and not about the people that voice their oppinion, if you step back and look at many of the arguments, you will see that most of them are not a direct attack against you, even if you feel that way. As such, defending yourself for liking something, is a bit odd, without beeing attacked.

I paid, all in all, about $60 for the game. It took me 34 hours to do my first play through and I enjoyed it immensely. I'd gladly put in another 3 hours at work in exchange for 34 hours of fun. So meh - kudos to Bioware.

It is a little odd. I don't like DA2, but then I don't like liver and onions either. But you know what, I can accept that some people do. And you know what, I'm never going to talk someone out of liking liver and onions if they do. Fact.
Now I do want to make my opinion heard however, in hopes that what the loyal fanbase wants really does matter to BW. Just maybe, maybe they mean it. Enough people like me want a change for the next game and we just might get it. If I never said anything I have no one to blame but myself if every game BW makes from here on out is just like DA2.
I wish more people used this approach. People should definitely be vocal about what they like and dislike, that's just good feedback. It's only when strong opinions degenerate into hate threads and unquestioning lovefest threads that they lose their value as a tool for constructive critique.

1. You are assunming the 'loyal fanbase' agrees with you. That's just not enccessarily true. Many so called 'loyal' fanbase like the game just fine.
2. There is, in reality, no such thing as a 'loyal fanbase'. People abuse that phrase. Customers are loyal to one thing and one thing only - their own selfish need for self fulfilled enjoyment. People don't give a bit about BIO. They care about themselves. Nothing wrong with that, but let's be honest.
No such thing as true loyalty to a company.
I know that I wouldn't turn my back on a fmaily member who did soemthing i disliked but I guarantee you if a game comapny I liked started making games I disliked I would turn my back on them in a heartbeat - this is why despite my liking of BIO I have not bought all their games. How does that make me loyat o them?
3. On top of that, talk of 'loyalty' is dishonest anyways when we're disucssing money exchanging hands. That's not loyalty that's business.

I enjoyed the game as well in the first two days, but after reaching Act 2 and the repetition started to kick in I can't find any motivation to continue. On top of that it seems that after Act 2 there is nothing new to see, and the story begins to fall short in Act 3 and that's dissapointing.
I don't understand how you can make a value judgment about Act 3 if you haven't proceeded beyond Act 2. If you're basing your opinion on other people's feedback, I would urge you to play through the game yourself, as you might have different opinions once you've experienced the content directly. Even if your opinion doesn't change though, at least you will know it's based on your own direct experiences.
The repetitive environments were a disappointment for me as well as for many other players, but I am enjoying enough of the other aspects of the game that I'm not focusing on that particular design decision. It's understandable if that consideration is more disappointing to others though, as we all focus on different aspects of the game. If level design and exploration is one of the primary avenues of enjoyment from a game, Dragon Age 2 would be particularly disappointing.

2. Its nice that you liked the game OP. As a matter of fact, I'd suggest that a lot more people on these forums 'liked' the game than would appear. I say this because people compare the game to Origins - a perfectly natural reaction - but the games are in a different league. I mean, I'd 'like' going to watch my tennis coach to play a match. If I then go and watch Nadal-Federer at Wimbledon, do i come back and tell my coach that 'he's terrible' and that unless he changes his playstyle, I'll stop paying him? Course I don't. Because i can recognise the difference in calibre between the two games, in regard to both tennis and Dragon Age. I too 'like' DA:2 for what it is: An action rpg with the remnants of the more detailed system found in Origins.
Its just that the internet, for all its good points, is a text based, impersonal form of communication, and due to the anonymity, people tend to post more extreme views than they actually hold.
So yeah, to conclude: There is nothing wrong with saying you like something; that is your opinion, which you have a right to. There is nothing wrong with someone politely objecting to you, and saying "Well, actually I think X because of Y". There is something wrong however, when people needlessly insult other forum members, take an aggressive tone, and just ****** off the people who actually want to use these forums to have discussions which are borderline intelligent.

Unfortunately of late, borderline intelligence is all you will find around here....very borderline.SirLogical wrote...

On topic: I enjoy this game. A few issues but nothing that screams "terrible" like a lot of the extremeist nonsense views around here. It was fun overall in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see how Bioware responds to the self-described "loyal fanbase". Right now, people who are actually enjoying Bioware's most recent release are being attacked, insulted, and shouted down on Bioware's own forums by those claiming to be the "true" Bioware fans. People are apologizing for liking a Bioware game on Bioware forums?
So, here's the question: does Bioware cater more to gamers who like DA2 and are more in line with its current design direction, or to gamers who attack it most recent work on its own website? My guess is that DA3 will look more like DA2 than DAO, only with more polish and some refinements. I don't think that a better presentation of DA2 will make some of its long-time fans happy. I wonder if Bioware will try to make them happy or just move on.

Honestly, the things people do and say to cover up terrible flaws....terrible copy&paste locations...terrible wave upon wave of spawning misfits that come even out of cracks in the walls....i could go on but you get the picture.

Personally, I enjoy the DA2 combat more than DAO combat. I like the fact that there are multiple waves and enemies spawning on top of you. It makes it a lot more challenging for me. I didn't find DAO combat challenging, even on Nightmare mode.

I usually only play games for the story, which is why I didn't mind the combat. It was fast, exhilarating and I was always on edge. What brought down DA2 for me, and alot of other people, is that DA2's story was so incredibly lackluster,(with forgettable companions, and plotholes galore), which is not what Bioware is really accumstomed to do. I play their games for AMAZING IMMERSIVE stories. DA2 did not satisfy me, and alot of others, at all.
