Both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 randomly cause my computer to restart itself.

Aside from this the games run smoothly even on full graphics settings.

It should not be an overheating issue, sometimes I can play for hours before it happens, sometimes it happens literally moments after me starting up my computer.

This is starting to eat away at my enjoyment of the game, any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, it doesn't do that.  You just think that it does, but you are wrong.  Games DO NOT "RESTART" computers.  Period.  A BSOD occurs for other reasons.  A "Reset" without an OS intervention is a bad mainboard or a bad power supply.

Uh, Gorath, what are you responding to?

To answer the question: Can you provide your computer specs? Does this problem happen with other games?

Okay I realize now I probably should have read the sticky for the form before posting, but live and learn I suppose...

My system specs are(as seen in the Mass Effect 2 Configuration Utility Tool):

I am playing on a physical disc.

Hardware:

Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad  CPU   Q9300  @ 2.50GHz

Clock Speed: 2498 MHz

Physical Memory: 3,99 Gt

Display Adapter:  ASUS EAH4890

VRAM: 1,00 Gt

Driver Version: (shows up as blank)

Sound Adapter: Kaiuttimet (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Driver Version: 6.0.1.5745

Software:

Operating System: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium

DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later

I am currently playing Mass Effect 2 version 1.02, but this problem has occurred consistently in Mass Effect 1 and 2 in every version I've played.

The same thing has happened a handful of times while playing another game, Mount&Blade: Warband to be specific, but that and ME 1/2 are the only ones that have caused this restart to occur.

There doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to the restart, it has happened during dialogue scenes and regural gameplay. One situation where it happened repeatedly was during the Freedom's Progress mission debriefing dialog scene with the Illusive Man, when the "stage" or map changed from TIM's office to the Lazarus Research Station with Joker. I suppose it might have been because of the game loading a new map or something.

I am not using a save game editor or any other mods.

I would also guess it's the power supply.

This negates it having anything at all to do with the game. If it were a game related issue then it'd have some sort of recognisable pattern to it.

Gorath had it with his first messege most likely anything else is wasted chit chat.  I don't see it being anything else than either your PSU is dying or your Motherboard is dying. The first of which is quite fixable by just replacing it with a new one and seeing if it works fine. The second one is a bit more of a pain in the backside. But since it manly seems to happen when playing games it;s probably your PSU since it would need to use more power when playing games.

If your computer automatically reboots when these crashes happen, the first step in troubleshooting is to ensure that Windows is not automatically rebooting for you. There is an important difference between a mere crash (which is generally related to software, e.g. video card drivers) and your computer actually rebooting on its own (often caused by defective hardware).
