This is kind of a random trivia question related to the KOTOR games in general.
I always thought the name Echani sounded familiar.
I finally put two and two together and remembered that there was a famous spec ops guy named Michael Echanis who helped design a knife that we collectors have always been a fan of (REKAT Warrior). He was also well known as a hand to hand expert who developed many of the military training regements used today. Also an expert in stick and knife combat.
I was thinking that fit rather well with the way Echani are portrayed in the games. I know game developers are knife collectors sometimes. I am a knife collecting game developer myself and that one guy who worked on Half Life keeps buying up all the cool Strider customs. (shakes fist with jelousy)
Anyways, maybe a random developer can answer if there is an origin to the name. Possibly the famed CIA martial artist Michael Echanis? From what I understand the term "Echani" originated in KOTOR 1.
This could be a who-cares thing, or a no-one-knows thing but I thought I'd ask.
Feel free to ridicule me for taking so long to pose this ultimately pointless question.
Looking forward to the new game. Loved the old ones and much of the other Bioware stuff I have sampled.

The concept of "Echani" predates Kotor by several years. In any case, the origins of the name hasn't been revealed.

You are right. Looks like it showed up in some comics first. I did some searches here and elsewhere before I posted but apparently not deep enough.
Never underestimate the wealth of Star Wars trivia on the internet.
Still would be interesting to find out.
The knife itself does have a sci-fi look to it. Would be cool to see a giant vibro-equivilant in the game.

(Game) designers are usually influenced by real-world and/or fictional characters and events, so these kind of theories are at least plausible.

+ (1-8) slashing damage
+ (2-4) ion (4-8 against droids cause F*&^#% droids)
and uhhh....keen, whatever that means.
Futzing around on my obsolete 3d program is fun.
I wouldn't imagine they would have user created content in an MMORPG but whatever. I don't know what the requirements are for the old games but maybe this could fit (608 polys). I still have to skin it. The technocolor on it is me planing out the skin. A double bladed version would be nice.
