Hey, I'm not exactly clear on when Morrigan first comes up with the idea of getting pregnant with the god-child.

Most people assumes that it was her reason for joining the warden in the first place, but I can't find anything in-game to support this, and she seems genuinely surprised when forced to follow him/her.

Personally, my guess would be that she found out about the ritual in Flemeth's grimoire, but is there a canon explanation?

Well for one thing, she still suggests the ritual if you never give her either grimoire, so that's not likely. As for why people say the ritual is why she joined the Wardens, she pretty much says so if you ask her. Rather, it was part of Flemeth's plan.

I assume it was in the plan all along, but she wasn't at all happy about it to begin with (and probably wasn't expecting the start of the plan right then), which would explain her initial reluctance to leave/join the party.

>_>. If you fully question her straight after she makes the Dark Ritual offer, especially when Romancing her, she'll come out and say that it was her original purpose when choosing to follow the Warden.

I'm sure someone who has access to the toolset will come and provide the exact dialog, but it really is as simple as saying something like 'So.. is this why you came with me?' and her replying, if Romanced, something like 'Yes.. I have been... foolish to get so attatched, since it makes this all the harder. I shouldn't allow myself to be distratcted.'.

Its the entire point of Flemeth saving the last two wardens in Ferelden and forcing Morrigan upon them as repayment.

Sorry to interrupt but how confident was Flemeth exactly with her plan? I mean, Morrigan could be barren for all we know so even if she succeeds in getting laid by a Warden, it's not 100% certain she'll get pregnant.

It's not just normal sex they have, a magic ritual is performed. The ritual ensures that Morrigan concieves.

Hmm, does the ritual ensure it  or is Morrigan already magiically fertile when she joins the Wardens.  You do not have to do the ritual for Morrigan to be with child, if the Warden ever tents her, she'll still end up pregnant.  (I assume in the no ritual case, the child does not have the essence of an old god in it.)  From what Alistair says it's hard for a Warden to have a child but it only takes one time with Morrigan.  It could easily be luck but my guess is that she may have already magically made herself "ready" before she joined the Wardens.  In that case though the ritual woudl have to allow the archdemon to enter a bit of an older fetus depending on the actual time of conception.  Could also explain why Morrigan is one of the quickest to jump in bed with the Warden.
