Are there enough bodies to keep you healed up?

I believe that blood magic nerfs the healing received from death magic. I know it certainly affects healing received from spells such as drain life!

In spite of the nerfing to healing magic that blood magic does, I think it helps a little, but I'm still testing it out atm.  I'm starting to think that maybe I shouldn't have bothered with it.  It's hard for me to tell when it's working in battle.  I have the ring lifegiver too and before I invested a point in death magic, I could tell that helped even with blood magic activated.

The main trick I know that works with Blood Magic is constantly maintaining regeneration (which means recasting it every few seconds). Blood Magic cuts direct healing effects by about 90% but it doesn't affect health regeneration.

I got curious after you posted this and tested it out, and yes I think Death Magic remains unaffected by Blood Magic (and thus, couldn't hurt to upkeep it...not like it's dipping into your casting pool to maintain it).

Death Magic and Drain life both are effected by the -90% Healing penalty of Blood Magic. There is a mod that fixes this on PC.

The Forumla is (100.0 + Spellpower) * 0.1 for Death Magic then apply -90% to the Final result. (Per Corpse that is)

As for Regeneration
Contrary to popular beliefs, this spell actually is affected by blood magic's healing penality. (as of PC v1.03) However, if used on a mage before activating Blood Magic, it will not be affected by the healing debuff.

Odd, I always seem to get the same bonus to health regeneration from Regeneration whether I have blood magic active or not. Maybe they reverted the change in 1.04? ...or I'm hitting a glitch :D

Its kinda hard to test unless your looking at it in the scripts and even then alot still dont work.

Keep in mind this is Regen from only the Regeneration spell and not your natural Regen which can be augmented by Skills, Talents, Specs, and Gear.

Regeneration Formula
(100.0 + Spellpower) * 0.1 per second. Over Duration: 10.0s.

with Blood Magic would be -90% to that final number.

So let say you have 100 spellpower, =200*0.1=20.0 = 20 Health Regained per second and 200 total health regained by the end of the spell. With Blood Magic active you will only see 2.0 Health regen per second and 20.0 total at the end.

Keep in mind you also Regen at differant rates in and out of combat. (In combat you regen every 2 seconds naturaly)

Felt I needed to retouch this topic and point out something for Awakening.

Combat Health Regen is capped at 20.0
Just FYI

Also in Awakening if your are a Blood Mage/Keeper.
The Spell " Replenishment " in the Keeper Tree will make any keeper spells heal you and will consume corpses to heal you. It only suffers a -10% to healing instead of the -90% when Blood Magic is active.
I belive this is more in Spirit to what the OP had in mind.
This includes the instant heal for keeper damage and the heal over time for consuming a corpse.

This is why Blood Mage/Keeper is one of the best non-obvius combos in the game.  Add in Arcane Warrior, or Battlemage or Spirit Healer and you are pretty formidibale.  You can seriusly tank as a arcane warrior in this way.
