Completed the game on hard before , now going through it with another party .

I'm doing the herbalists quest in act 2 to get the dalish ink , while there i decided to enter the 'recently opened cave' , after some fights i get to the room were theres a golem who sells stuff . Now i've done this before and i dont remember it being this mental. I think theres a book in there that triggers another wave with a revanant , but even though im not touching it it seems like 2 fights are happening at once.

I got killed so i loaded it from the auto-save were the fights about to start and thought "i'll play sneaky and teach them a lesson" . Well i've never seen so many monsters at once. If this is working correctly then its bloody stupid.

Must be at least 20 shades (ones with the bigger health) , 2 rage demons ,  horror , revanant and a desire demon . Backing down a corridor once i know a fight hasnt ever failed before but there were so many creatures that i could barely move. Really hard as rage demons cant be killed super quick so they tend to pop up and really hurt and you fail so many CC and hexes as they dissapear alot. combine that with horror that needs instant killed or he kills you very quickly , plus desire demon and revanants debuffs around them.

I remember on my first playthrough i had 2 spawns at once , a load of people appeared , night sisters or cotterie rogues or something and as i ran to attack them a conversation began and after the conversation a load of templars appeared , there were loads and it seemed obvous that it wasnt supposed to be like that.

Yeah, that area is particularly difficult. On purpose, I believe. I got through it by luring the enemies in as small a group I as I could into the corridors and keeping them penned in and away from the rogues & mages. Also, try coming back later after you've gotten a few levels. That never hurts.

Yeah, I remember the Ship Captain's quest on the docks at night. I hadn't cleared out the hive of thieves down there yet, so I ended up fighting the thieves on the bridge while eavesdropping on the captains, who promptly charged at my party after they finished their conversation and took notice of the clanging of blades and slinging of spells above them. Since they were three boss rogues though, they wiped me out on Nightmare.

I do remember the Nexus golem fight to be long and full of enemies, but isn't there supposed to be a spawn of enemies after you interact with the book, rather than before? So all of those enemies were just from the area.

I remember one bloody idiotic event on NM during Act 1. I'd betrayed Meeran so he showed up all angry-like. Fenris got this fantastic idea of running off - the wanker charged through half the zone and then it clicked "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea" - he brought three gangs with him.

Less spectacular but equally annoying is that second scroll quest - I think it's called Pride Unbound. Anyway, it's on Sundermount, if you take a left at the funny altar and head up the hill, it spawns an elite corpse and two revenants plus all their chums. Another one of those "oh bloody hell" fights. Drops a nice axe though, Bloom I think it's called. Or does he drop the sword...can't remember, been a while since I've rolled a warrior

i lured them into a corridor but honestly the whole corridor is packed full of them , you cant move in there , its mental , and if the horror isnt near the front i cant attack him with melee as i cant get to him as theres so many shades .  Add in 2 rage demons a revanant and a desire demon , i dont remember this fight being like this my first playthrough.

I replayed the fight recently. The only difference I noticed is that the Revenant's pull attack now works properly, which makes it extremely difficult to either kite or pull him to the corridor. This is basically the only difficult aspect of the encounter, the rest of the elites should be dead before they reach your ranged (assuming you go with 1 tank, 3 ranged which for this particular fight, you really should) by focus firing them.

The fix to Revenant's Pull made this one a multi-reloader for me, too; way tough, but the shop was worth it.

i think some replies arent reading my post :)

its not that the fight difficult , ive done it before , its that its gone mental and summons twice as many at once , and instead of coming in waves they all apeear at once. 20 shades , revenant , horror , 2 rage demons, desire demon , all spawn round me at once , they all just appear as one huge group .

reloaded the game from 15 minutes before and the fight worked as it should and was easy . I guess soemtimes it just bugs out and goes crazy. This time they appeared in waves as normal , and not 20 shades , just the usal 6 at a time . oh and 6 abominations

i notice revenanat pull works now , still think they too easy when the game aint bugged out and summoning 30 creatures at once :)

i dont think you read my post , i know the fight is easy(*) as i said ive done it before , but this time it bugged out and went mental . normally 20 shades with large health bars dont all spawn at once with a desire deman , horror a revenant and 2 rage demons , all just appearing at once.

edit - forgot to mention 6 abominations as well

(*) maybe easy is the wrong word but a fun challenge

Yeah they definitely should be appearing in stages. However the whole encounter seems a big screwy sometimes.

One time I breezed through it, killing elites as they appeared. Another time I can barely kill 1 or two before another wave comes.

Not sure if next spawn is timed, which discourages turtle tanking mobs, or if spawns trigger from a specific enemy being killed.

If they all spawned at once that would be pretty hard/impossible..
but imagine the possibilities!! picture fenris/aveline staggering the horde of shades and then throwing a chain lightning into the mix...now that would be beautiful!!
I think that pretty much all the demons/shade/revenant types are weak to electricity (not sure about abominations) and have noticed pretty amusing sights while zapping them.

Ah, I've done that so many times.  Usually when I'm fresh, like level 7 making it almost impossible, meaning I have to come back later.

As far as I know, additional waves are based on the # of enemies left, so if you're struggling with an elite enemy, and the extra wave + that guy is killing you, try going for the elite enemy first before the next wave.

That being said, the Nexus Golem gauntlet is a pain in the rear, especially if you're trying to clear the main room without backtracking a lot.

There is one early fight that gets out of control quickly, even when you know what's going to happen. In the NW section of the Wounded Coast, there are 2 apostates and some spiders... I always go there to complete the "Duty" mission and end up clearing the whole map in one go. So after clearing those guys out, I go east back towards the entrance... this leads you to the spot where you find some bandits and an intercepted Grey Warden delivery (initiates the "Dark Epiphany" quest if you spared Avernus).

Now, it's bad enough that the place is swarming with 5-6 spiders, and that there are at least 10 bandits, including more than one rogue and several archers. The really bad part is that out of nowhere, you get a HUGE respawn from the west... a large group of mabari and 1-2 more apostate mages. For some reason, Varric tends to wind up lagging behind and gets owned fast while I'm trying to deal with the group to the east... even if he doesn't, this fight can be very difficult due to the sheer number of opponents on both sides and your low level and crap equipment.

This is only on Hard. I imagine it's much worse on Nightmare...

I had a similar thing once in Danarias' manor in act 1. Anders somehow managed to phase through a door into the main room. When I went through to grab him every beasty in the place (side rooms, main hall) all appeared at once to greet us.
