I'm at the Prime Suspect/All that remains quests.

I was just wondering what you guys thought:  should I kill or spare Gascard?  How different is the story if I kill him?

It differs a bit.

Avoiding spoilers, I'll say my favorite option is: Let him live, then seek out his aid during 'All that Remains.' Make sure that Varric is in your party for that quest.

You'll thank me later.

Let me answer your question with another question - Do you like Experience Points? You get damn near 2k chasing him through the mansion. And you get to loot his hat.

If you spare him in Prime Suspect, you can bring him along in All That Remains which can play out a couple different ways depending on who's in your party. Alternatively, you can decide to spare him and then leave him be until after the events of All That Remains, at which point you can talk to him again in Darktown, which can also play out a couple different ways.

I've never killed him, so I dunno what happens, but nothing you can do will change the ultimate outcome of All That Remains.

I killed him last time. Since BW has opted to not let the player choose the outcome of the quest, no matter what you do, I just smack him in his mansion for extra XP. I can understand if the choice of letting him live would allow to change the outcome of that final quest, like kill him and won't make it in time to save Leandra; or let him live and thanks to this and his "blood tracking" you get there "just in time" to save Leandra, but BW has taken away that option and no matter what or how you do, the outcome is already decided for you. So why bother keeping him around, rather rack up on extra XP and scenery.

I personally like sparing him, so Varric can crossbow his throat. Very funny.

This. There's really nothing to push me toward killing him or sparing, except to give Varric the chance to do it later.

When that happened I was at first as shocked as Hawke was, then I was laughing, cuz the Orlesian bastard really deserved it.

There's very few things that cannot be improved by bringing Varric along. My personal favorite is "Oooh, but ze Hanged Man is so feelthy!"

Phft. When Reaver does it it's all "omg that jerk he stole my moment I hate him forever!"
When Varric does it it's "oh wows that's so cool Varric is my best friend fer sure!"

And keep in mind Varric is more popular than *Stephen Fry* for doing the same action.
At this point I conclude that Varric is handing out free pot. It's the only explanation.

It's alright.  I've played through this quest once before, so I already know what happens.  I just wanted to get a general feel of what you guys thought was more of a fitting choice.

Nah. Varric hypnotizes people with his chest hair.
