It isn't 80 plus hours. You can't count spoken dialog as gameplay.
If you take the dialogue out of Persona 3 and 4 it's a pretty short game. Fable 2... is short WITH the dialogue. Easily beaten in 10 hours and it's replay value is far smaller than DA too.
If you take the Dialouge out of FFXII you are probalby left with a 25-35 hours game.
I beat Fallout 3 in about 12 hours as well.
I'd say that, content wise, Dragon Age is doing just fine.
If you take the shooting out of Halo it is only about 15 minutes long.
What a rip!

Maybe you can't, I certainly do. I usually enjoy the dialog and story far more then the combat. The combat is just something to pad out the game as I progress through the story.
mrotton.. wow a brother.
exactly
For me its like Krondor reloaded..
Great characters
Dry humour
No post/pre parameters on morality for the willfully stupid
Every choice even though you know it will be padded in goodness
is interesting.

If you aren't interested in story telling (and maybe you are, I don't know), I might suggest you play a different type of game, or at the very least a differnt type of RPG. If story doesn't interest you then maybe you want a loot centered game like Torchlight. I really enjoy teh gameplay in Dragon Age, but I also come for the characters and story, and the game wouldn't interest me nearly as much without them. I love the codex all on it's own, I would love to see lots more codex entries.

Have you ever played a bioware title OR an RPG before? Plot abnd character development thrugh dialogue and cutscense are what you are paying for, much like when you pay for a shooter you expect shooting.
So if you can take the dialogue out of an RPG I can equate that to taking the shooting out of a shooter.

Indeed. The point for a lot of us is, y'know, role-playing. You need other characters to interact with. They have to have dialogue. Ergo, dialogue = gameplay.Tennmuerti wrote...

True we are not forced to buy it but games are not as complete as they used to be because of it.
Yeah, because 80+ hours of gameplay just screams "incomplete".
Compared to the average game Dragon Age is above and beyond in the content department.

Not really. If you take out all of the voice-acting and extremely long dialogues there is probably about 30 hours of actual gameplay that doesn't involve you sitting there waiting for some NPC to shut up. I can name RPGs from the original Playstation with more content, and the whole 80+ or 100+ hours is nothing new for RPGs. For as long as this game was in development you would expect it to have 200+ hours of gameplay.
I can't even fathom that you believe the crap you are saying. You're basically saying yea, it's an 80 hour game, but if they took out 50 hours of content, it would be a 30 hour game....
sorry to be rude but no **** shirlock.
It's actually "Sherlock." Maybe you should read things more slowly so as to understand what is being said.
I said that the majority of the "content" that makes the game 80+ hours is spoken dialogue. Spoken dialogue is not gameplay. If there were an option to view the spoken dialogue as text like on many other games rather than have to sit through the voice-acting, the game would be much, much shorter. After you've played through the game, the dialogue is not necessary, and oftentimes it gets annoying. So you're left with about 30 to 40 hours of actually playing the game, if you choose to skip through the dialogue. I consider this to be "fluff" and not content. Voice-acting is nice to have, and helps with the immersion, but it is not, and never will be, gameplay. I would rather have 0 hours of voice acting and 50 more hours of ACTUAL GAMEPLAY. This is the point being expressed.

And if you took the cinematics out of mgs4, it'd just be a title screen. Don't forget that.
Anyway Dragon Age has delivered a significant bang to buck ratio in comparison to recent games, as long as you're a fan of rpg's.
The dlc is all a good thing: more gameplay, expanded story, and more ways to show our love for bioware and specifically dragon age.
What they really need to do though is release the OC modules for us enterprising modders who just want to expand events within the current game >_>
Topic derailment complete, ta folks.
