Not buying DA3 if Mike Laidlaw is still in the lead

I really hope that they move him on some other project.

I don't want him fired, since I am not the kind of person that wishes bad things to other people. Although what he did with DA2 and the way he handles the interviews with bashing DA:O and dismissing everything that is not a praise for the game, certainly doesn't help his case.

All I am saying is that I most certainly will not be pre-ordering/buying if his name is in any way connected with DA3 other than "X replaces Mike Laidlaw as lead designer for DA3".

He simply has no respect for the criticism that comes from the audience that really loved DA:O and made the games a success.

There are some good things about DA2, and he has every right to feel good about them, but they are so few. He and the people responsible for this game would have gained so many points if they just acknowledged that DA2 is simply a dissapointment to many, other than "We hear you what you're saying but no... this is better".

Is that so hard? He who admits guilt, half is forgiven. (a saying from my country)

Perhaps you should wait until DA 3 drop to bargain bin and BioWare offer Mass Effect 3 for free?

Yes move him to Mass Effect, which is what he really wants.

Leave others to run DA.

Move him over to Mass Effect, which is what he really wants.

Leave other lead designers, who actually DO like DA, to run the show.

I may just do that. The ending of Arrival left me apathetic towards ME3.

I agree completely, I think what you are saying is very reasonable and possibly do-able. I just think Mr Lailaw's  talents would be better served on another type of game. Can we get some sort of PETITION  to Bioware, "please bring in a new lead designer for DA3, keep the few improvements from da2 but mostly  return Dragon age to its origins:)  "
maybe we could use this site

They should clone Casey Hudson and put him in charge of Dragon Age.

Hear hear! His latest interview leaves me convinced he was the key person behind DA2's massive changes and subsequent sucking. What's worse is that he still refuses to acknowledge the fan backlash continues to ignore it. I too will not pre-order DA3 if Mike Laidlaw is still in charge and will wait till i see comprehensive non-ad driven reviews from trustworthy reviewers and the community.

NO LAIDLAW FOR DA3!

Well, Mass Effect is constantly removing the RPG elements from the game, and at least I don't want that for DA. Mass Effect 3 WANTS to be a shooter, and they even have... ugh... ladders. The worst thing to have as a main mechanic in shooter combat.

Well he did hell of a job with Mass Effect (if I googled the name right) ... so ME is his IP ... he has his style, his visions ... on the other hand I want Dragon Age IP to be something else, something with different vision, different style of cinematics, story telling ... and when I saw how much DA2 resembles ME2 i was kinda shocked ... so I would rather if someone else, someone closer to fantasy gender (not sci-fi) do the job ... but thats just me =)

And yet Mass effect is much better than DA2, what it's ironic, is not it ? ...

The combat in ME2 is actually enjoyable. In games where combat is a big factor that can tip the scales. Things respawn in ME2 as well, but they do it at a distance, the idea on ME2 is to take territory and cut off spawn points as you progress through level, it works really well. It's also why the Vanguard is totally broken after you gain a few skills and upgrades. You can fly through the levels with biotic charge, no XP from mobs it's all based on quests and completions.

As much as I didn't like DA:2 that much, this topic is garbage.
"I won't buy your game if dude x still works on it"
Guess what, this game wasn't the work of a single person, and even if there are more visible faces to the game than others, the game was a group decision.

And what if the decision to turn DA:2 into a more action-ish game was not his decision at all, but he was mandated to execute it? All it takes is someone with a vision that believes it hard enough to convince everyone else that they're right.

Well, it isn't that ironic. ME2 is a good game. But I wouldn't go as far as call it an RPG. I was hoping that ME1's RPG mechanics would return for ME3, but this CAsey Hudson says they are going for teh perfector shooter combat. And if I want that, I'll jsut go play CoD.

"Casey was the Project Director on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003), winner of over 40 Game of the Year awards - and one of the highest-rated videogames of all-time."

You're right to say DA2 resembles ME2. That's because it's trying to emulate it and fails miserably. How people get away with such plagiarism is beyond me.

What RPG mechanics are you talking about? Because there isn't many in ME.

I'd hardly call plagiarism two products coming off the same company.

Well, "RPG mechanics" might have been a wrong term, but ME 1 had weapon skills and skills and such. It was more RPG-ish in every sense, even with the ridiculous amounts of loot. But ME2's combat is purely shooter. There are only couple weapons, and at least I found almost all skills rather useless. I didn't even feel any sort of progression.
In my opinion, ME1's combat was RPG-shooter hybrid, while ME2's was mediocre shooter. I wish that they would have honed the hybrid-form rather than abandoning it and going for the pure shooter.
