So he deserves allocades merely for meeting the minimum standard of being a decent human being?

Yes. Also, Hawke's mother mentions that the hero of Ferelden was her cousin Revka's child. Obviously Revka Amell and her family were wealthy and of noble blood until she got her child. When it was revealed that the child had magical abilities it all went downhill from there. But these are hints you probably won't find in Origins.
That's because they aren't in Origins. Having played through Origins as a human mage, I can say that there is nothing in the game that suggests that you are from Kirkwall (or related to anyone from there), and there are at least two instances I can think of where it is conveyed that you are a native of Ferelden.

I think Cullen has a lot of potentional as a character to grow as a party member if he gets put in Dragon Age 3, but I'm not gonna lie, some of more obsessive fangirls and boys in the Cullen thread have weirded me out to the point where I am starting to hate him the way a lot of Mass Effect fans hate Tali...
How come? Im one of the most dedicated cullen fangirls and i have posted in his thread many times but not once i saw anything that other threads dont have when supporting their fav char/NPC
We are polite, we dont bash other charscters, the only thing we do is showing we like him....and dream of having him as a team member.....why that weirds you out?

I like him up until he goes along with the Annulment. His strange reluctance to fight the Champion condemns him further - he could have disobeyed when Meredith orders the death of innocents, instead he disobeys when she orders him to kill someone who can fight back.
Or maybe because his chantry teachings are rooting deeper than you thought?
"Mages are not people like you and me. They are weapons"
Cullen just disobeys Meredith because she isn't following the rules of the order anymore. If she would have respected the rules when she declared the RoA Cullen would've been in the first wave slaughtering the mages, because "the order dictates".

verbal fellation lol awesome.Riona45 wrote...
I only thought he was kind of adorable (personality-wise) during the Mage Origin. Other than that I don't really think he's worth the verbal fellation he gets, and for the record I never thought he was that handsome, especially not in Origins.

"Meredith is crackerjacks and maybe I shouldn't do everything she says." Takes quite a philosopher to work that one out.DaeJi wrote...
Cullen was simply the best designed character in the game. He had his views and was scarred by what happened to him. As he saw and was exposed to more, his views changed and adapted to the new information. He was thoughtful and introspective, exploring new ideas. We actually got to see him grow throughout the story into the man who stood up to Meredith and spared innocent mages. I hope we get more of him; I hope he's a companion in Dragon Age 3! Any pride BioWare has for him is well deserved and despite (the many) problems in Dragon Age 2 Cullen was a constant reminder of the quality that BioWare can bring.
I am also a male. And may now possibly be gay for him.

I have always loved him. If he was ever written to be a companion I would so jump on him if he was romanceable. To me he is also the hottest char in the game now.All that aside though, what really drew me to him in DA2 is
that he seemed the perfect example of a "Knight in shining armor." He was honorable and chivalrous. I swooned
when he talked about interrogating the ladies at the brothel, he was so adorably shy. and then protecting Hawke
in the end; Wow! I think in the transition from Origins to DA 2 he has grown into quite a man. Bioware would be
worshipped by many fangirls if they allowed us to romance him. The love interests we have now are just so tragic,
(mainly speaking of Fenris and Anders) so it would be nice to have a romance more like we had with Alistair in
Origins. Alistair had his issues, but to me that was like a fairytale romance, which I hope Bioware
revisits in the future... (and hopefully that will be Cullen).

Also, as much as he has matured he still has that shy/innocent side...which is sort of endearing.
I was surprised that I was more worried about him than my companions in the game. At the end when he was standing with Meredith and I'm thinking "Am I going to have to kill Cullen?!?!?"

It's not that I have seen any of you as being rude or mean... If you were that wouldn't creep me out. What creeps me out is the people saying they want to "fellicitate" him, or take his armor off, or how much they love him when we know so little about a character besides brief encounters scattered across two games. It's just... Guys, he's not real. It's nice to be able to fantasize I guess but... Really?Selenora wrote...

Never understood the fascination. His zealotry maybe hidden in Meridith's shadow, but I remember his "annul first, ask questions later" attitude in Origins and I remembered him saying mages were not people in DA2. He should have challenged Meridith when she first gave the order to annul, but as mages are not people, he only reconsidered after Hawke & Co. wipes out many templars.
But when you side with the templars he sides with you when you are given the opportunity to spare some mages. After Meredith orders the Templars to kill the mages. I can understand what people are saying about he said my mage wasn't a person but in a way mages aren't normal at all and are very dangerous. I didn't get offended because he actually says "Mages cannot be treated like people. They are not like you and me." He didn't actually say that a mage isn't a person. Even as a mage Hawke I can understand his opinion, and agree mages are weapons. I took it as him saying because of the power they wield they cannot be treated like everyone else. But I guess thats just me trying to read between the lines. Everyone has their opinions.

I think it is just called roleplaying, putting yourself in your characters life. It's like when I read a story or see a movie I really like, I can imagine myself being part of it. I am also a writer and when I write I see myself in it and imagine myself part of the story. If something major happens in my story to my main character, it happens to me to. I don't get enjoyment out of a game if I can't fantisize about the characters or story.

He was one of the sanest people in Kirkwall. Actually, he may have been the only sane person in Kirkwall.
Not hard on the eyes.
His character actually matured and learned from the past.
He was moderate in an entire town full of bat-$%^& not-so-moderates.
He stood up to the powers that be, in defense of something he had been taught to fear and had truly believed in up until then ( and still did, and so was not willing to taint that with excessive fear or extremism.)
Best looking model in the game. Mature Cullen is a good thing.
And, I love the bump on his nose.

In general, I believe people get WAY too offended over nonsense. But here I would take offense. When any group of humans, be they mages or whoever, get their humanity stripped from them, it is a powerful enabler for perpetrators of violence.

Yes, and people are in denial if they say he's not the same in DA2. As you point out, it's only next to Meredith he looks reasonable. He's still the same templar who said (to his supposed crush) "it is my duty to oppose all that you are."Joy Divison wrote...
