Hej!
I have found the three companions I want to play through the game with, but in my camp I also have Morrigan (and my dog).
I didn’t free Sten and I let the assassin go (forgot his name), so I have missed their quests . Was that stupid? Will the end battle be much too hard because I have skipped their quests, and therefore experience points?
I’m thinking of doing Morrigans quests (cause she is already in my camp). But it doesn’t feel right to fill my camp with “companions” just to get their quests (and more exp.).
What do you think of this?

If this is your first playthrough, I highly suggest you recruit each of the companions, get their approval maxed and do their quests. You miss a bit of fun if you don't have all of your companions with you. They have some fun dialogue and they banter back and forth with each other. Morrigan's quest in particular is one I don't want to miss. Some playthroughs I kill or don't recruit some companions, or I tell them to leave or I get them so mad that they just leave me.

How do you get the dog's personal quest to open up? I "think" he must have one, because everywhere you go, you come across certain "things" that are obviously associated with dog (or at least.. I think they are).

The dog doesn't have a personal quest. He finds things for you, but that is it.

I say it's more important to have fun with the game and role play it. If you feel your character wouldn't take certain companions then don't take them. Otherwise you lose that element of being free to play as you want.
That said, neither Sten nor Zevran (the assassin)'s personal quest comes to much, in terms of plot or XP. I think the only character with a personal quest relevant to more than just themselves is Morrigan. Hers is worth doing, both for plot and XP.
That said, do be aware all the companions are pretty great. And if you don't get them all the first time, that just gives you more reason to do a second playthrough.

Yes, Ferretinabun, that was exactly how I thought. My character is a good guy, so having Sten and Zevran in my party didn’t seem right. But Morrigan was the first one (except for Alistar) to join the party so doing her quests is kind of OK.
And as you said, it gives me more reason to play the game a second time.

actually, after finishing the game for the first time, i found out we don't need Sten, Zevran, Wayne and Oghren. Just original characters is enough. Leliana is most useful out of all.
I never use them. Wayne is just because of Mage Tower quest. I never use Sten. Oghren is just when in Deep Road.
For me, main character, Alistair, Morrigan and dog or Leliana is enough to the end. Others are just good for chat in the camp.
Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana are all versatile characters. Morrigan can be a healer, supporter or damager. Leliana can be melee dual weapon fighter or archer or just a thief picking locks and disable traps. Alistair can be a tank or melee or even an archer. Other characters are fixed.
So, in my next play through i don't want to pick Sten and Zevran. They are just a waste. Sten is easy to fall. So i will leave him in the cage.
