I bought the NWN2 platinum edition on steam, and I can't save...Well, I can but when I quit the game and restart for continuing to play, the saves have disapeared...

When I check in the game folder (d:\\game\\steam\\appsteam\\NWN2) there is any save directory ; in mydocuments (c:\\user\\me\\mydocuments) there is any NWN2 folder, and so any shadow of my saves....

I had try to uninstall reinstall the game many times, suppressing any trail of NWN files, but it is the same.

my pc work well, here's the config :

Retail or Digital: Direct 2 Drive
Processor Manufacturer: Intel
Processor Type: dual core i3cpu
Processor Speed: 2.13 GHz
Operating System / Service Pack: Windows 7
System RAM: 3,86Go
Video Card Manufacturer: ATI
Video Card Model: Radeon HD 5470
Video Card RAM: 256 megs
Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst 8.812.0.0
Free Disk Space:  C/45,7GB + D/204GB

I use the same version of NWN2 and have folders in:
My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\saves\\0000001 - start
My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\saves\\\\000002 - b4 cup
...
My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\saves\\multiplayer

Question: After you have saved a game, can you go back (while in the game) and try loading the saved game to see if it exists?

I just tried and yes, I can reload a save while playing; but when I restart the game, saves have vanished.

I just can't understand why...it's like prestidigitation for me : there must inevitably be a trick somewhere...that can be fixed

edit: I have see that the game doesn't keep my config's edit (resolution, gameplay etc...)

finally someone reporting on the same problem.

i believe it is due to the folder structure in windows 7 being different from XP (i.e. c\\users as opposed to c\\docs&settings\\)

i set all the .exe files to run in XP SP2 mode with admin rights. ive noticed that the settings seem to save, and my character creation data even saved (the character is listed as a townsperson and is selectable from the premade characters list - even though it was completely custom) - but as with vent-divin, the save data simply ceases to show in the save/load lists. vent-divin, you may find that setting them to run as administrator may allow at least your settings to save.

different from vent-divin, even when in-game and saving, immediately returning to the save or load dialog, there are no entries.

additionally, what ive found, is that it appears to have saved all my settings files and save games in the root of the c:\\ drive. - if vent-divin could confirm this is also happening, we might be part-way there.

i believe windows 7 uses a symlink for compatibility with the old docs&settings folder structure, but something must be missing in translation and that the save folders are not being created or they are not appearing where the game is looking, etc.

moving the files from the root of c:\\ to the root of the NWN2 folder in the steam folder caused the game to crash on boot.

reading the .ini files included in that same folder, there is a directory setting for the saves - it reads as ".\\saves" - which means [thisfolder]\\saves\\ - there was no such folder. creating it did not help, nor pasting the files from the root of c:\\ into this folder. additionally, without knowing the exact location that NWN2 is looking for save games, its pretty hard to guess at where to put these files. moreover, if they are supposed to exist in the docs&settings folder, i dont believe that will be possible to replicate in windows 7 due to the aforementioned symlink already existing with that name.

im willing to get this working, i enjoy the game... but we definitely need the input of players that DO have it working (on both XP and win7, possibly vista) - and the input from whomever helped port it from a standalone game to a steam game would probably be best (though i know thats asking a lot).

vent-divin, if you dont mind, id like to repost your problem and my response on the official steam forums for the game as well. there wasnt even a thread about it over there, which is somewhat disappointing.

for reference and out of curiosity, have you ever changed any settings regarding your libraries or my documents in win7? i dont recall if i have, but i may have redirected them to my network storage at one point, or tweaked something here or there, and im curious if that might have something to do with it.

hope you guys see this response!

alright, well i figured out the issue (for my case, at least).

i had my "my documents" redirected to a network share that was no longer online. pretty much everything else worked, but it needed that specific setup to be correct.

i could not change the location or settings of the my documents folder until i put the network share back online. before that, the settings and folder just didnt want to appear (and when they did, they didnt not have the "location" tab to set it back to default).

once i got the share back online and my documents reappeared, so to speak, i reset the location to default (which is c:\\users\\yourname\\mydocs, basically). launched NWN2 and noticed that my settings were not saved, but that local/townsperson data was still saved.

saved a game and it populated in the list. closed the game and relaunched, and it was still there (and loaded!).

i dont know if the other people with this problem are having the exact same issue, but i hope the info from my situation helps, at least.

good luck!
