Bioware is pretty obvious with their villains. I recall when I first played Origins thinking, when it came to Loghain in the camp, "Really? You're making it THAT obvious? Why not just give him glowing red eyes, fangs and horns". Bhelen was the same. Bioware, let us be surprised. Stop making villains look shady.

No kidding.

And I don't see how anyone could be fooled by Anders. Come on, really? "BOOM, no more Justice?" If his betrayl was a snake it would have bitten you. Seriously, by the middle of the game I honeslty was surprised Hawke had made it that far because everyone was back stabbing you left and right. No one had an ounce of honesty.

I´ve clearly not spent enough time in the brothel.

If you purchase their services - one of the "shes" turns out to be a "he".

I must admit I was taken in by Anders on my first playthrough. Mainly because I wasn't paying attention, I thought Tevinter magic, sure, give it a try. I figured he was going to do the spell and it would just fail. As for distracting the grand cleric I figured the spell needed to be done on holy ground or something, either that or he was going to pee in the holy water for a prank.

Grace didn't have me fooled, I just sent her away because I wanted to be pro-mage and I'd deal with her inevitable betrayal later. It would have been less obvious if her first solution to getting away wasn't "kill the sympathetic templar outside".

And anyway, sometimes you just have to let a character make mistakes even if you know what's going to happen, because the character doesn't.

Anders I saw coming. His ingredient list was odd. Waste material...hmmmm, you're not drinking that. Grace was a surprise. I thought she may have been guilty of something but I didn't see that thing with Thrask coming. Isabela, I knew she was up to something when she wouldn't go into the Qunari compound and when the talked about the storm and her ship she almost says Qunari. Orsino was a total shock. I was stunned and yelled "You Idiot" at the screen. Followed by this is stupid Bioware I took his side on that playthrough. Just an excuse to fight a Harvester.

If Bioware had any writters with a lick of sense one the the other mage (preferrablyblooding to death on the ground) would have done the harvester thing as a last dying act and Orsino would have been killed by it ala Carver/Bethany and the ogre. Still a cheap way to make sure everyone'same is practically identical (i.e. nothing to transfer to future games), but at least you would have complete bull**** sequences that make no sense,

Bhelen is the best pick for Orzammar as King. Just sayin'

I'm talking about the dwarf noble origin.  I knew he was full of it by just looking at him.

Taking Merrill and Isabela to the Fade and not expecting them to be tempted was pretty stupid on my part. After Merrill betrayed me with the pride demon though I did realise I was buggered when I saw the next demon was a desire demon. But considering most party members will betray Hawke in the Fade I guess it didn't matter. Plus learning of Isabela's love of big boats was fun.

I did miss a few clues but I did figure out Isabela's relic was something to do with the Qunari. I don't get why Hawke couldn't offer to help Isabela go after Castillion in the first place though, Hawke is good at killing people.

I also thought Hawke was pretty thick not to know what Anders was planning.

Heh, I was so disappointed that Anders was lying about the potion. I totally believed him. Once I found out he was lying, that was it. I didn't believe anything else that came out of his mouth.

Tbh, the only part of the game I didn't enjoy was how there were no twists.

There was allways varric, aveline or anders going "No, don't do it!" so I sometimes went along with it hoping to find out it was all fine and it would be an intreasting trick, and it never was.

Batrand also does the whole evil voice and face thing before he locks you into the deep roads, you mother begs you not to take the surviving sibbling as she didnt want them to get killed, surprise surprise as they die if you don't have anders with you, and Isabella doesn't sound convincing at all when she wasys she will take it back to the arishok.

Id really like to see more twists, so you think your doing the good thing, but turns out they were actually blood mages! or you try to be corrupt by arresting them for no reason and it turns out, they're blood mages!

see what Im getting at?

I always assume everybody in a game is really out to shank me in the back so I'm always more surprised when it doesn't happen than when it does, so I really didn't have any moments when I felt I had been gullible or naive.

I knew Isabela would probably take off once she got the book, that's who she is. I knew Anders wasn't really working on a potion to separate Justice/Vengeance from himself, I hoped, but I knew he was up to something else. And Merrill, well it was pretty clear from the start that  the whole mirror thing was not going to end well. Heck,  I even suspect Varric is really a dirty rotten bastard who sold Hawke and all the other remaining companions into slavery to cover his tab at the Hanged Man after the mage rebellion... he can't possibly be that good and perfect... and he *is* the one telling the story so of course he's going to present himself in the most positive light. :P

What saltpeter and sulfur is used for may be common knowledge today but back in the dark ages where this is set, that was the most closely guarded secret in the world.  The real question isn't why didn't Hawke know what he was up to, it's how did Anders know how to do it?

I actually believed the "Rise to power" tagline and EAs marketing schtick before the game. By the end of the game I felt really gullible.

Pretty much.  I very seriously doubt we'll ever get a believable explanation on how Anders managed to get ahold of knowledge that most countries would give their treasuries for.

Yep, explosives seem to be something that no one but the dwarves and Qunari have, so the fact that Anders would be making a bomb was WAY out of left fiend. It's fairly inexplicable.

Well, it IS a very silly explanation but, he is hosting a Spirit of the Fade which are known for remembering ancient knowledge...

Also, we know the Dwarves have explosives that are based on lyrium, perhaps this is the type of powder Anders made since, making gun powder requires a specific ratio of ingredients and that was the hardest thing to figure out back then.

Yep, and dwarven ones are made with lyrium.  The ingredients he's getting are used for real explosives, so he's got the real recipe unlike, say, Dworkin.

Well, wouldn't it be possible he is using the extra ingredients to make the bomb more potent? I dunno, I find it easier to believe than if he miraculously discovered the formula AND collected enough material to cause that ridiculously large explosion at the Chantry.

My Hawk knew he was being shifty, even without a background in chemistry. I hated that it was made even more apparent he was hiding something after a dialogue option which, was not an affirmation that you would help and also, that you could not call Anders on it and change your mind. 'But thou must' was abused in that dialogue.

Anders was with the Wardens at Vigil's Keep. That dwarf made lyrium bombs. It isn't entirely ridiculous Anders either learned to make it there or became interested in bomb-making there.

I figure that Anders wasn't lying about it being an ancient Tevinter magical ritual. It just happened to be one about giant explosions rather than separating spirits from hosts.
