I would've loved to have Aveline's VA voice FemHawke instead. I like her voice.

I don't get the "snob" critiques anyway.
I hate to break it to you, but Hawke is a snob. The fact that she/he is raised in Lothering is irrelevant. Leandra is a snob, and hence raised a snob. Bethany sounds pretty snobby too. So does Carver in that earthy-snob way.

I swear Mass Effect and Dragon Age 2 are the only mediums where people are criticised for acting in character.

So true.  Like mother like daughter.  *sniff*

No one needs another Aveline, I guess it all depends on taste. But I still stick by the fact I dislike her voice, but I will tolerate it. There's no point me not enjoying the game due to her voice. As much as I want to burst into the screen and strangle her everytime she speaks.

OP, what accent do you have? I'm from London and have what I think of as a neutral accent, though it may sound posh to some (see list below). I thought FemHawke sounded fine to me, though I only heard her in the pre-release videos, as I have been playing ManHawke.

Anyway, it's much nicer to hear someone speaking clearly than...

chav
brummy
oop north
west-country
newcastle
liverpool
manc

And I can't think of any more accents offhand, but all of these sound horrible to me. What exactly would you suggest as an alternative?

I didn't mind her voice. But it did occassionally go a bit Stewie Griffin when she was giving sarcastic answers, which amused me.

I disliked both Hawke VOs, as both sounded too posh for a refugee from lothering.
But I put up with it because of the good one liners sarcastic Hawke produces.
I'll hope that the next game's main character VO is chosen by lore, not distinctness.

They did sound posh didn't they? Not even the couslands could match up to that extreme "I'm better than you" accent.

Male Hawke is played by Nicholas Boulton, who also plays Bann Vaughan ("I'll have you all flayed!") in DA:O.
Female Hawke is played by Jo Wyatt, who also plays Ostagar Priest ("be gone heathen!") in DA:O.

It seems their voice actors have at least played parts which require some pompousness.
Maybe that accent / tone followed itself from origins and into DA2, or maybe the VAs just sound like that.
Either way I do not like it. For lore in my opinion was ignored, 'heroic sounding' took precedence here.

I have a Yorkshire accent, but not a thick one.
I have no idea what accent she should have, maybe it wasn't her accent at all that was getting to me, but just her voice. Some Posh accents are amazing, but with the wrong voice it all goes down hill. If would have been much better if her voice sounded more wise, less "Kookie" "Girly"

And my urge to punch her through the screen is explained.

I hated that priest.

P.S. I personally found the FemHawke voice to go perfectly with the kind of rogue I play.

Same here. It is as if it was made for her :o

There's no romancing Anders the "proper" way, but I personally thought the male romance was better.

I hated the female Hawke voice and the way she walked. It was totally unfitting to her character IMO and felt very forced, as if in direct response to all the femShep "too manly" comments. I replaced her walk with that of a male Hawke, so she's at least a little more tolerable.

And  to be honest the perfect voice for female Hawke to me would be The voice actor that did Bann Alfstanna (Hellena Taylor)

Did you miss the "Lothering finishing school for girls" ?

It's not bad (she voices the MrMen) but it's not really what you would expect from someone raised in a rural enviroment.

I found it incredibly bland.

Just made me press ESC every time it was my turn to talk.

Come to think of it, after the 1st playthrough, I pressed ESC on nearly every line in the game... It never felt deep enough.

In DA:O I hardly ever press ESC when people are talking, even on like the 7th playthrough.

I don't think Hawke's accent is that posh. I'm a Brit from the South-East and have pretty much the same accent, and I'm from an average family, so it doesn't register as remarkable to me. I know that kind of accent does tend to equal posh in films and TV, though.

I preferred the male Hawke voice over the female Hawke (I thought the lines were delivered better) though to be honest nothing could annoy me more about the female Hawke more than her swishy-hips running animation.

I abosolutely adored Lady Hawke's voice. I can be very picky when it comes to voice acting, but she was pretty much flawless.

Lady Hawke's voice acting is one of the few bright points of DA2.

To my crude American ears, basically every foreign female accent sounds incredibly sexy, regardless of the country, or how it may sound to natives.

I loved her voice. I also have a couple of friends who are british and her accent sounds dead on. Not every person who is british is going to sound the same. Like not every american is going to sound the same. It's a fact of life.

Anyways If you want a certain voice for a certain character you have the diplomatic voice, the mean and angry voice or the mischevious and witty voice. 3 different tones to choose from. So say you're playing a warrior and you don't like the witty voice. Play as a complete badass voice it's pretty good. Or play as a diplomatic voice. You don't have to pick just one. Mix it up if you like.

Hellena Taylor is a good choice, I think Mika Simmons would be good as well (Bella) or even Natalia Cigiliuti (Sigrun).

I think I'll replay female Hawke to see if I can stand it while mixing up the dialogue options.

Once I got used to it, I thought FemHawke's VO was pretty good. It was a bit jarring at first I'll admit, but only because it hadn't been what I was expecting. Her tone is quite high and a bit softer than I thought it would be. I think her VO suits sarcastic and diplomatic Hawke well, but perhaps not always a perfect match for aggressive Hawke.

My biggest issue is that she also voices Mimi from Guess with Jess, a program that my 2 year old likes... Not her fault obviously lol, but after I realised I couldn't stop mentally imposing the pink bunny rabbit head in place of Hawke's. Damn you, imdb.

I can't stand her voice either.

I hate it so much that I haven't made more than one FemHawke and never finished it.
