Okay,so we know that ME3 will be using new engine,UE3 right?
And from what I saw in GameInformer,ME3 is visually definitely a step forward.
Now,I could barely play ME2 on 1280x960 resolution. There were few minor freezes here and there.
That worries me.Will I be able to play ME3 on that resolution,or will I have to turn it down, and how much?

I guess you'll have to turn it down.

It's too early to worry about the game's system requirements.

It has to run on consoles, man. Below average PC will be more than good enough to run it.

I know I can run it,but Mass Effect shouldn't be played on low-res.I wanna enjoy it as much as possible.Know what I mean? Such cinematic experience should be played in its full glory, right?

You can reand in "Confirmed features thread", there won't be DX11. So any card from GTX260 and better will run ME3 beautifully ( and from 5770 and better)

I dont think, that people will have to buy new PCs just to play ME3
considering that hardware havent progresed that much in recent years
Sure we have new graphic cards, awesome cooling systems.. and keyboards, but processors taking a nap in nice comfortable coffins. So we are OK.
Optimise your performance / run a few checs and it will be OK
no need to drive to nearest store and order custome parts for your newbor monster

But we have some reasons for concerns.
1.We are not console users, (BTW i dislike consoles. IMHO: consoles are for kids or poor peope.)
2 How will new Engine run and react to different G-cards.
3 Will there be shortages of memory on high setnings?
4 longer loads?
5 Glitches after suden change of area?
6 Will we have to wait for patches? Gamedevelopment is rather fast... so mistakes and bugs are welcome. With Bioware they are kinda fun.
7 What else ?
8 I realy want to see that engine!

Both Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 ran on Unreal Engine 3. Honestly, all this fuss about ME3 being on a "different" engine is generalization at best. ME3 is still made on UE3, however heavily tweaked it might be. The system requirements won't be drastically harsher than those of ME2.

It's got to run on xbox and ps3, both utilize nvidia 8800 class gpu's (well, more like optimized 7800/7900's). So, if your cpu meets the requirements for ME2 and you have better than an 8800 video card, you should be fine, imo.

That's a downright incorrect way of comparing console/PC GPU computing power, they have entirely different architectural nuances. I don't really know the in-depth stuff, but I'm 100% sure what you just said is simply pointless when calculating hardware/game compatibility.

It's already been stated that this is a DX9 game for PC, so this is a mute point, but......

The XBOX, (and maybe the PS3) support tessellation-only available in DX11 iirc. So in theory you could have an XBOX/PS3 game that required an upgrade to a DX11 card IF they tweaked the engine to support that feature (I believe Epic will officially support it in it's next gen engine).

Or, they could do right by PC gamers and up the texture, decal limit, persistent objects and such to more appropriately take advantage of even yesteryear's PC hardware. Given the short dev. cycle, almost direct console porting is likely. So it is probably no go on that front as well. (Go Go PC dev team! Prove me wrong pleaaaaase :) )

But yeah, probably no upgrade is required unless you have upgraded from XP to Win7 in the mean time. Win 7 is a bit more hungry for system memory.

Beyond that....erm on the sound front they redid the engine (great job by the sound team on that btw). I believe it supports Dolby surround by default, so if you don't have one already you could get a supporting sound card and 5.1 speakers.

But yeah-you will probably be alright-might have to turn the AA off or something worse case.

I would be surprised if they still allowed for single cores cpu to run ME3 so beautifully as ME2 did. I've yet to see one of those new games that can run better on my ancient CPU

So upgrade. You have at least 6 months. Replace your below average computer with an average or better-than-average one.

I can play ME2 max 1920x1080 at 50-60 FPS
I have a old
Phenom x3 8750 @ 2.8 Triple Core
9800GTX
6 GB DDR2 Corsair 1066 ram

I'm assuming Ill be able to play ME3 fairly good at that resolution

If they do the optimization thing they did with ME2, we shouldn't be too worried about system requirements. In any case I'm so glad they are still using Directx9. That means I won't have to make an expensive and pointless OS upgrade just to play a game.

In one of the Q&A sessions they said they were going to try and keep the PC specs close to that of ME2.

its gonna be a year from now.
even by saving 5 bucks a week, you'll be able to buy a super awesome new graphics card by the time the game comes out >.>

No such thing, I'm afraid.
Close to launch, the dev team will draw straws and the loser will be tasked with porting it to PC.

Unreal Engine 3 takes most of its resources & processing from the video card, not the CPU. So long as you have at least 2 gigs of RAM (800mhz is fine) and an ATI 3850 or higher / equivalent (with 256mb onboard video RAM) you'll be fine.... An ATI 3850 is a very old card by today's standards, is dirt cheap (around 50-75 dollars) and can handle ME3 at 1680x1050 resolution reasonably well. (I know this because my 2nd computer.. which is not even my gaming rig.. can handle ME2 just fine and is a mere 2.0ghz dual core with 2 gigs ram... a pretty old computer).

RAM is cheap - older video cards are cheap... these are the 2 things MAss Effect 2 & 3 require the most (doesn't rely much on the CPU.. though you don't want your CPU too slow / old since it will bottleneck your video card).

They did say in E3 that they were aiming at having the same specs than ME2, but I will admit that I believe that recommended specs might be a little higher.I have no prob as I have a phenom II 955 black edition at 3.2 Ghz and an Ati Hd 5770, anyways I was planning on upgrading my gpu this year...so I guess I won't be having issues. But I used to run Me2 on a Core2duo 2.7 ghz with a 9800 gt and it played fairly well at lower resolutions of course.

Er... this is wrong. On PC, UE3 actually uses a great deal more CPU than other engines do. Always has.

UE3 is often CPU-limited.
