I have an old quad oc'd to 3ghz and GTX 460 1 GB and suprisingly BF3 is very playable on ultra. I'm not worried about Mass effect 3 system requirements :D

The thread you responded to wasn't actually about the requirements, but rather, about the inherent limitations on graphics in today's console-oriented game environment (pretty close, yes).

Actually, as stated before, even
though the Unreal Tournament base is Dx9 and Xbox 360, ME-2 hadn't
managed to exploit the full range of what the console graphics can
offer. There is / was still some headroom left (not too much, I know).

That other thread with a similar type discussion, that Marcin replied to, wandered afield from ME-3 into generalities and ended up being locked.

This.

One of the best things about using a modification of an older engine is that the system requirements are never very high. If ME3 has drastically higher requirements than ME2, something has gone very wrong.

So ME is still on U3, eh? Good to know.

Hopefully it will handle flowing water better so characters aren't crying oil slicks. :P

Yes, but it's "heavily customised" according to Bioware.

i was still able to play ME2 with my ati 3850 and a Q6600 cpu. settings all to high. loading times are short and the game runs smoothly. so i guess it will not change now. but i am planing to get my self new hardware. DE:HR was starting to lag a bit when it had to deal with lots of lights.

MINIMUM requirements are unlocked i7. topline asus or gigabyte mobo, 16 gigs PC3 14900, triple 580s, 7.1 surround system, and three-screen 27" hd array. (and if you tell my wife otherwise, you're a deadman.)

Gddr5 graphics card upgrade should be fine. Q6600 is an old powerhouse, i have one oc to 3ghz stabile as a rock. Me3 should run just fine, if os is not giving in to old age, but upgraiding is fun so why not:)

Do the ME games actually use multiple cores by any chance?

The question is, will Mass Effect 3 run on Wine?

Unreal Engine so yes. Although there's not much difference in performance in ME2, only ME1. I played ME2 on a 2ghz single core, then switched to a 3ghz quad and it was just about the same performance I was getting.

I was looking through the site for the required specs of Mass Effect 3, and can't seem to find any? Has Bioware released anything official and I just can't find it, or am I left guessing? I mean, I'd like to know if I can play the game before I go preordering it. It would be kind of wasteful to buy a game I can't even play, after all.

If I have just missed an official word on required specs, please just link me or something. It would be much appreciated.

Developers almost never offer specifics this far ahead of the release date (references to it will stay fairly general until the game is within 10 days to two weeks of going gold, usually).

Sadly, the Bulldozer didn't perform nearly as well as predicted. I haven't heard much since the first news about that, hope they fix it, since it could save AMD. I like them :(

It was never necessary for AMD to beat Intel at the absolute pinnacle of top end performance, since that is so far beyond what anything on the order of ME-3 will ever need.  The APUs have graphics that destroy the Sandy Bridge graphics for a much smaller cost to the user.  Combine a usable set of cores with a Mainline level of graphical gaming ability and sell it for a lot less than the cost of Sandy Bridge, and the gaming field will be revolutionized.

I expect the graphics to be significantly better quality, more polished than the first 2. They won't be pulling a halo 3

Audio will be top notch as usual. The writing will still have its quirks like the previous 2, but still improved.

.

Personally, I am HOPING to see better utilization of the possibilities still unexpended in Dx9 graphics, while ready for almost no improvement worthy of that definition.  I anticipate modest steps in some areas, while as usual leaving the Garrus' face texture-type failures on something new.

The Witcher 2 runs on DX9 and it looks amazing. It is not UE3 though. But Bioware should be able to make ME3 look a lot better looking then ME2 if they want to.

Were you aware that The Witcher and Witcher 2 are both using the Bioware Game engine from NWN, updated to Dx9 differently than Obsidian did with NWN2?   I own both, but for personal reasons, never even installed W-II.

Witcher 2 uses the Red Engine. I believe it's the first game to use that engine.

Well, that's what happens when Projekt Red shuts off its forums. I never installed their sequel.

Only if Deus Ex HR uses the UT3 game engine.  Does it do so?  I don't know; it's not on my own play list.

A quick look-up reveals that it uses something called a "Crystal Engine", not UT3.

I'm not following.  When did they shut off their forum because I'm looking at the official forum right now.  And if you're talking about an older forum that was shut down, I don't see why that would stop you from installing a game that you already paid for.
