Tragically I am without my main rig for a year, this year of all years, but have a laptop equipped with a GT540M, hopefully that is sufficient to lift ME 3? It seems to handle Skyrim and SR 3 withouth breaking too much sweat.

It meets the Demo's requirements, certainly. Skyrim has comparatively lenient graphics card requirements and that card should be fine for it. It is the wee hours here, I should be asleep, but ended up awake instead; I'll be back in bed soon. Maybe it's sleepiness, but "SR3" is meaningless to me now.

I believe it's Saints Row the Third.

Maybe he just doesn't rate the game? But I know it chugged my old 4850, when everything else could run pretty smoothly. Of course, Skyrim kinda choked my PhenomII 965 at times as well, and I never got to try out that script that was supposed to tidy up the CPU heavy bits.

But back to the point, I'm hoping what's good for the demo is good for the full game, I can certainly live with medium settings, but low may be taxing. =/

Whoever thought that slapping more ram on a GPU was a good idea? This 540M has 2gb sitting on it, on top of the 8gb that the laptop came with. Sure as heck doesn't run any faster than my PC I say.

It is my understanding that the memory system bandwidth limits the amount of VRAM that is actually used when gaming, such that a GT 540 would top out at a single GB, or even less.

Most of the bloat in VRAM amounts is marketing, because buyers do not know any better (hell, even Bethesda doesn't know any better).

You should be able to run ME3 on High. 1280x720 @ 60fps solid. 1920x1080 @ probably 30-60fps, with averages around 40fps.

Not quite, but it's definitely the right idea. If you have more VRAM, you can store more game assets (models, textures, etc) in RAM without having to stream them from the disk (SLOW).

The bottleneck (aside from disk streaming) is almost always getting data from the RAM to the GPU cores for processing. So while your card will indeed use all 2GB, there won't be any noticeable speed boost unless you're running massive texture mods or high-poly models (an example is the Crysis 2 dx11 pack + high res texture pack).

I thank you for the enlightening post. Now all I have to do is make sure I get my copy of the CE.

I would like to buy the game but I am not a tech guy so help me out here. my hardware is:
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T9600 @ 2.80GHz 2.80GHz
RAM 4.00 GB
System 64-bit Operating System

Duplicate thread created.

http://social.biowar...39361/1#9156049

The question overlooked the single most important part of any PC intended to be used for gaming, which would seem to mean that it is useless for the purpose.  An actual, dedicated, discrete graphics card, a separate circuit board, or the higher level version of an AMD APU, is going to be required for official support (and proper functioning).

(The name of the second generation AMD APUs involved is "Trinity", and I'll be darned if I know where that archaic term popped out of.  Those ("ALUs") were dispensed with after the 80486 generation, pre-Pentium and pre-K6 - - fixed this in edit )

I'm going to go ahead an assume a GTX 570 and i5 2500K is completely maxed then?

There is no need whatsoever for a duplicate message thread.

Probably hear this asked a lot, but would ME3 run on a laptop with the following:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M (1G dedicated)
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9000 (2.00 GHz)
4G RAM
DirectX 10

Been pawing over this question for a while, is my laptop up to the job?  Please, anyone with a better grasp of this stuff? I know the RAM and Direct X are okay, and could maybe get away with the processor, but will the video graphics card pull me down?

That CPU is below the recommended named for the Demo, and we do not know yet what the game itself will require, however, laptops aren't supported, and being so close to the minimum, unless your laptop has a Turbo speed to offer, it may perform poorly.

Thank you for answering. Is there some way to upgrade the processor? Do you have any suggestions? I've compared my graphics card to the recommended specs and it seems alright. But, like you said, my processor really lets me down.

You just need a better system if you cant run me2 at that resolution. You also need a better monitor.

Laptops are designed as disposables in order to allow them to sell at the kind of prices they sell for. Only the RAM and the storage subsystems can be improved. As gaming platforms, they are far too expensive due to the very short life spans they offer compared to the onrush of gaming requirements.

Ok perhaps you could clarify what you meant by "The CPU is below the minimum named for the demo" ?  The demo requirement is a 1.8ghz intel core 2 duo the guys laptop is running a 2.0ghz intel core 2 QUAD .  His CPU certainly seems to be better than the minimum unless I am missing something here.

I have a similar system (although probably a bit more powerful).  I have an Intel Core 2 Quad at 2.4ghz and a GTX260 and I see no reason why Mass Effect 3 won't run at 1920 x 1080 @ 60fps on my system (Me 1 and 2 did).  Now the guy with the laptop may not be able to achieve 60fps and 1920 x 1080 res on his laptop hardware but it is more than up to the job of playing Mass Effect 3 at decent resolutions and framerates.

This^^

A 2.0ghz C2Q should easily run this game with a satisfactory framerate.

I had thought so, I mean its 1.8GHz minimum, and I've got 2. But I can run ME2 fine enough, however the screen resolution is very small, but I am happy enough with it. Sounds like there is some luck yet =)
I have used gaming laptops for years, and they've lasted well enough. Thanks for the clarification though folks, I was starting to get worried there.:)
