Yes, I know, not taking assasin is going to gimp my build, but I want to play a shadow duelist for RP reasons - and lack of cheese.

Anyway, I have a couple of questions, which hopefully someone who has played this build may be able to answer for me...

Anyway to start.

1. How does decoy and the passives the duelist get stack. Does the decoy get the 20% from evasive manoevers?
2. How does decoy work with throw the gauntlet - more specifically to the death. Will the critter still attack the decoy till destroyed, even if I come out of stealth, to wail on the &^%&^$ of the critter?
3. Do active talents, such as parry work on the decoy (i want to make the decoy last longer if I can wail on its ^%$£)?
4. Does inconspicous cancel out To the death? (perhaps a way to make the decoy the target of to the death, and remove the effect from yourself),
5. How much damage does the rigged decoy do?

If anyone has the answers, it would be much appreciated.

Assassin isn't really cheese; Shadow and Duelist just aren't very good. Both of the other classes have three good specializations, and several of them are just as powerful as Assassin, but none of them are as weak as Shadow or Duelist.

1. I don't recall if the decoy receives your defenses. Regardless, Defense is a weak stat, and it won't notably add to the survivability of your decoy. Don't rely on it.

2. If an enemy is attacking your decoy, and you Throw the Gauntlet it, you will draw its aggro from the decoy and onto you. Why wouldn't it?

3. Once again, Defense adds little to no survivability, since it doesn't apply to spells or abilities, which means that it can only really tank critters and normals, who don't need to be tanked in the first place.

4. As far as I'm aware, no threat reduction affects To The Death. The "Enemy won't seek new target line" means that as long as the enemy can see you, regardless of inconspicuous, armistices, goads, or taunts, it will attack you for the duration of TtG.

5. It does damage equal to the decoy's max HP, which is equal to half of the rogue's HP.

Edit:
Not really getting your "RP reasons." Duelist and Shadow have conflicting themes. Duelist focuses on honorable, single-target battle, and avoiding attacks via skill, while Shadow focuses on under-handed tactics and cowardice, and avoiding attacks via misdirection. Assassin/Duelist and Assassin/Shadow both have much clearer, reasonable ideology, and offer little to no thematic conflict.  But whatever, if you want to play it, then do so. Just don't expect it to do well on Nightmare. Not all builds are created equal.

Slightly missed the point - I want to throw the gauntlet first, them make a shadow decoy for the critter to wail on.

What I want to know, is if I pop out of stealth granted from the decoy, will it still treat the decoy as having cast throw the gauntlet, hopefully allowing 15 seconds of pure wailing, while the critter focuses on the decoy?

I think silverspirit is suggesting throw the gauntlet (so the enemy is forced to attack you) then decoying such that the enemy is forced to continue to attack the decoy no matter what - allowing some serious damage to be dealt as well as forcing the enemy to blow itself up.
I dunno how it works exactly - I think that the aggro you generate gets transferred to the decoy but i'm not sure if the whole 'unable to change target' bit remains.

edit: that could actually be quite useful for taking out assassins/bosses - either if they stay unstealthed (allowing you free crits at their back) or if they stealth kill the decoy (get blown up).. interesting concept.

And there's nothing wrong with a shadow-duelist - why can't a dualist "employ misdirection and an unassuming façade to waylay their opponents with devastating attacks." If they want to throw sand in their opponents face, good for them! ahaha

The decoy never cast Throw the Gauntlet. There's nothing to suggest that effects like Throw the Gauntlet transfer to your decoy after its creation. I don't recall how Throw the Gauntlet functions while you're in stealth, though. I do believe that Stealth is the only affect that will stop an enemy from attacking you while under the effect of To The Death, however.

And there's nothing wrong with a shadow-duelist - why can't a dualist "employ misdirection and an unassuming façade to waylay their opponents with devastating attacks." If they want to throw sand in their opponents face, good for them! ahaha

Because they're not much of a duelist then, are they? That description is much more applicable to an Assassin/Shadow than it is to a Duelist/Shadow.

Edit:
Really, how does throwing sand in an opponent's eyes have anything to do with a duelist's abilities?
Also, the word that you're looking for is "precedent."

LOL - nice catch on the spelling. Must stop posting on three different sites at once! Especailly when discussing religion and its aburdities.

Edit

and their is nothing wrong in saying I dont know how decoy and throw the gauntlet works together. Looks like I am going to have to test it for myself. Cannot believe no one has tries the build though.

I was toying with this idea for a solo playthrough. I still believe Duelist is the best spec for a solo archer early in Act I. Shadow is somewhat meh, though. Yes, Decoy makes sure your enemies are Blindsided (=+20% damage), and yes, critical damage passives are good, but Assassin provides much more benefits, in the long run.

As a build not shooting for maximum efficiency, it should be fun and interesting to play, of course. Especially if you are sick of that MoD > Assassinate routine.

Haha that description was a quote from the wikia for the shadow spec. (so i assume it's the quote for the spec in general as well). And I was suggesting that that is quite a plausible sounding characteristic of a duelist-like character which are common in books etc.
It's the idea of a swordsman/fighter etc who pretends to look relatively harmless, tricking them such that they can gain the upper hand. Not neccessarily dishonourable really. (though throwing sand in the eyes was probably a tad underhanded)

Anyhow, there's no real point to discussing points like this. If someone wants to roleplay something, let them.
I personally never really got into the whole roleplaying thing, preferring to create something based more on efficiency then maybe 'role play' from there. but each to their own

Yeah, that quote reflects the nature of a shadow quite well, but it's antithetical to the nature of a duelist. There's a difference between pretending to be left handed and throwing sand in your opponent's eyes and running away.

Sorry, i meant the first part - not the part about the sand. That was my own invention which goes to show how honourable i am

edit: I've noticed that I have a very annoying tendency of typing dualist instead of duelist. I attribute this to lack of sleep. which i shall rectify now. haha lates
