I could never really tell if Merrill was right... there were always too many information holes on both sides. However, I did think what she was doing was dangerous, so Hawke erred on the side of caution. Maybe Merrill was right, and maybe she could restore the Eluvian. But I didn't know that much about them, there was too much left unknown. Furthermore, purposely contacting demons (almost) never ends well.

I couldn't fault Merrill for wanting to do so, but I felt like I didn't want her to expose herself to so much danger, at least with so much still unknown. I also felt like she had her blinders on... she was ok with the possibility of dying to restore the eluvian, but I don't think she thought about the effects her death would have on Hawke, Varric, Isabela, etc.

So I didn't help her with it.

I agree. That line was poorly delivered. Although he could never achieve the rapey-ness of default Male Shepard's creepy smile.

Merrill isn't too bad. Slightly annoying at times, but at least not depressed all the time like everyone else. I really like Bethany, Varric and Aveline. The only character I would say I hate would be Anders (although I liked him in DA:A.) What an idiot....

I neither hate her nor like her. but her cuteness is weird. she is not like tali which is the really cute type. her type is that kind of stupid cuteness, more like those girls in Japanese manga

I had forgotten about Vaughn the Elf Rapist for a while, then someone kindly pointed out that he was voicing Man Hawke... and Merrill's romance became even creepier for me...

I didn't find any of the fights in DA:O or DA2 difficult myself.

That's not exactly the point. But yes, Hawke is powerful enough in her own right to solo everything in the game. That means that from the story's perspective, whether or not she actually did, she can.

Can you pardon me if I don't buy any information Merril gets from the demon? Even if the Eluvian does nothing bad, and works just like in Witch Hunt, I don't see how that will restore their history.

The person you say she rebels against, Marethari, seemed to take the demon's word. I mean, it's not direct: but the demon seems to appeal to Marethari's pride in that she knows best and can contain the demon, except both are clearly not true.

Anyway, Merrill knows that she can't take the demon's word. She's accounted for it. That's why Hawke's there, as insurance. He's dealt with demons. As far as restoring their history: it won't restore all of it, but it'll restore part. Moreover, if she can construct an entire working eluvian from just a single shard, I imagine that it'd be possible to reproduce a lot more. It's worth experimenting on. Moreover, scientific discovery works like that: many groundbreaking discoveries occured during unrelated research.

mm. That's perfectly fair. I just thought I'd say that, so people wouldn't think Merrill fan(gentlemen) weren't all horrid people.

Merrill is upset because Marethari was supposed to hand the arulin'holm over to her according to the rules of the Dalish clans, and instead she hands the tool over to someone else when it's needed for her to finish building the Eluvian.

Personally, I liked her voice since Torchwood.

Thats weird, I've never heard the words hate and Merrill in the same sentence before.... Probably because they aren't ever meant to be in the same setence. How dare you sir! Whats wrong with the Welsh accent? Bet its better then YOUR accent =P

I think Merrill is a great character, I love that she comes across naive and innocent at first but then you find out there's more to her. She isn't stupid she just lived a sheltered life, I'm guessing the Dalish aren't as big on innuendo as humans. I agree with some of the previous posts that Merrill's clan were idiots, as my (blood mage) Hawke said to her fear did more harm to her clan than blood magic ever could. Every time Anders and Fenris would say something mean to Merrill I just wanted Hawke to punch them. Whereas Isabela and Varric being kind to her made me like them even more.

I hate Merrill. She's my worst-liked companion. I don't find her cute at all, she's just anime-cartoonish. And skinny as a wire. She's stupid. Or as Alistair might say, shtupid. The whole mirror project is so... wrong, unwise, bad, etc. Everyone can see it except her. Aaaargh! She poses like a "good" girl but she's bad to the bone. Will stop for nothing to get the darned mirror, no matter if her entire clan dies. Innocently: "I never did anything, whay is everyone mad at me?" I want to wring her neck.
