Supposedly Merrill built her mirror by scratch starting off with a shard of the old mirror. She spent years researching and rebuilding it. Basically her only hobby.

The only one she encountered is the Tamlen and Mahariel found... that was shattered by Duncan (her Eluvian is broken too so I guess it's the same one) but in Witch Hunt, I found it still to be in the same place in the same ruin and Arianne said the clan (Marethari's) had moved on long ago... Did Merrill came back and get it afterwards? lol

Well I'm asking this because I'm still trying to justify Merrill, I don't think it's not wrong for her to want to discover her people's history but the whole demon and blood magic is really bad for me... Also, she said at first that she just wanted to find Tamlen using it but then she went all obsessive with it... in the end I'm getting Gollum vibes lol

The Warden "steals" a piece of the mirror too. So... how does Merrill manage to fix it all? Mind? Blown.

I don't hate her, and she's certainly not an idiot in terms of IQ. She is too stubborn and arrogant for me to like, however. She's not the only one who fit that description in DA2, but still there it is.

I personally think Merrill's adorable. I want to hug her, and I don't hate her. My canon Hawke, Julian, hates her, but that's just how he is.

she's very sweet but sometimes i just want to knock some sense into her. foolish is the word. i still think she is necessary plotwise as an "innocent" bloodmage, but since i tend to use anders i never take her anywhere.

Meh, can't really blame him-- coddling blood mages, especially arrogant Dalish ones, can't exactly be confidence-inspiring if you were once a slave to the non-Dalish versions.

That's what I was wondering about... Cos there should still be some pieces of the Eluvian left in the ruin if Warden & Finn went looking for it. I just can't remember how much shards were left in WH, it seems a lot. So I guess Merrill took most of the shards before the clan left, carry them around in a pack, assembled it in Sundermount with some frame and then brought it to Kirkwall... <_<

Keep in mind when we're talking so many years spanning since she got to Kirkwall. It was her focus the entire time. So if she was not with Hawke she was likely working on the Mirror. Meanwhile you have 2 rogues that spend most of their times in bars. Izzy seems to space her time between the Hangedman & the blooming rose. Who knows what Fenris was doing the entire time. Prolly practicing his broody faces.

Isabella splits her time btween Blooming Rose, Hanged Man, carving questionable things onto Hawke's staircase and mad treasure hunts on which she drags Hawke along.

Varrick is also pulling his (chest) hair out trying to pay off Coterie from KOing Merril when she goes shopping and ends up in their secret meeting places, tangled in twine...

Fenris is, well, there's codex entry that he actually does mercenary work. And likely stuffs his mansion basement full of corpses of unforutnate victims of magic fist pickpocketing experiments

No, he just leaves them lying around in his living space - just look at it. The whole game there are corpses lying around by the staircase. Why none of the noble neighbors ever complain about the stench is beyond me... Then again, it's no wonder Fenris comes to Hawke's estate to have sex. Decomposition would do horrible things to a person's sex drive...

Merrill spends a lot of time picking other peoples flowers - its not just working on the mirror...

She only took one shard, and built the rest up on her own.

Then... where did she get the rest of the glass? From the Eluvian store?

Word of God is that Merrill only took with her a single shard, which she then cleansed. She then attempted to piece together the mirror she has from scratch, rebuilding the missing parts based on information gleaned from whatever scraps of lore the Dalish have. 

That's why her eluvian is so much smaller and looks so different from the other two in Origins, and why the one in the ruins is still there in WH for the Warden to take a piece of.
