Are the fire giants in Watcher's Keep supposed to have whirlwind attack? I do not have the SCSII function active to give enemies HLAs. They're rough going and I just want to make sure it's intended and not a bugged mod installation. Thanks!

I don't think it's whirlwind. I think they are drinking potions of haste.

They have potions too but I saw a message that said whirlwind attack, and as soon as that popped up Keldorn went down.
I beat the fight another way but I still want to make sure the mod is working as I set it up.

Fire giants with HLA's are part of the "Improved Fire Giant Lair" component. Also, if you have SCS general AI installed, all enemy fighters of lvl 20+ will have HLA's.

Ah, general component by itself does it? I had specific options I could select for enemy casters and stuff, and this being my first play through since initially buying the game when it was new, I turned them all down.
What is the proper counter to that sort of thing? I was able to sort of cheese it by blocking the giants' advance with stealthed characters while shooting them behind the blockade. Otherwise I think I would have had to have blown the one toughness I have on my barbarian. Do you just rest a whole lot to get them back and reuse or what?

If your party members can't go toe to toe with them the best way would probably be to try to stun or slow them with spells or go nuts with summoning spells for cannon fodder and hammer them from long range.

If you have a blade, cleric/ranger, fighter/druid, or fighter/mage in your party use them to tank the fire giants. With stoneskins or PFMW they can't hurt you. Casting protection from fire on any one engaging them in melee well help too. Cleric/rangers and fighter/druids can use ironskins, armor of faith etc.
Any non arcane capable warrior classes should protect themselves with the hardiness HLA, armor of faith (if they can cast it). Using the defender of easthaven will add extra damage resistance.
The SCSII fire giants can also beserker rage and cast hardiness so using GW HLA's yourself will help take them down.

1. Mordenkainen Sword
2. Haste
3. GG
Note that Mordenkainen's Sword is guaranteed scroll pre-spellhold in SCS II.
