This is unless they let me choose the spelltrees of other PC mages initially let me have as many mages as I want. I love mages.
Mages can only choose one origin...

Seems a bit of a letdown for me. I love mages, and look forward playing the game with different mages specializing in different spell trees but this would force me onto the same origin everytime.

Well, it makes sense plot-wise: mages in DA:O are more feared then respected, and are always under the watch of the Chantry for signs of corruption. I'm sure there might be some rogue mages out there, but they are probably hunted by Templars and brought to the Tower of Magi or killed.

It would have been nice to maybe have a witch of the wild origin would have made for interesting interaction

Perhaps there will be some plot twist for mages concerning the supporting of Circle of Magi (training to be an Enchanter) and becoming a refugee of sorts (which is what a Witch of the Wild really seems to be).

Hmm, in that case I can choose different sides in multiple playthroughs? That be nice. I hope maybe in an expansion or DLC they add more origins for mages.

I was kinda hoping to make a dhalish mage myself, and was disappointed when I found I couldn't. It's for the sake of story tho. So I can take the sacrifice if bioware deems it necessary to make the story better.

I suppose it depends on how the Dalish see mages, whilst they maybe out in the wilds compared to the others, if they see them as potential blight then they would probably send them to where the mages are trained to ensure no corruption. City elves whom had shown prominence in magic would probably be forcefully taken or advised by the elders to go to again ensure they don't become corrupted. From a non-RP perspective there is also the point that there is 3 origins that can be selected for elves, whilst the other 2 races only have 2. *shrugs*

Keep in mind that Human Warriors and Rogues also only have one origin, the Noble one.
Aye, I found the constricting of mages disheartening too, especially since humans and elves share the origin. It would've been better if there was one Human Mage origin and one Elf Origin, completely seperate.VaxiusStorn wrote...

What is the one origin that mages can choose? Wasn't able to download the creator because my video card wasn't supported. When I get the game I was wanting to go female city elf and have them be a mage. The mage origin just sounds so unique to me that this would be the first time my first character would be a mage.

You can't be a city elf mage. You can be an elf mage, city elf or dalish elf. The mage origin is limited to elves and humans only.

Okay thanks for the information. Guess I was confused about the various elf origins. Now not sure which I will do first then Elf mage or city elf because both origins sound interesting to me. Well at least DAO will have plenty of replay value for me.

To be fair, an elf mage is assumed to be from an Alienage, but you can't do the City Elf Origin, and be a mage.

It is unfortunate that there's only the single origin for a mage. I intend on playing DA:O multiple times, but I'll be choosing a new origin each of the first six times I play (if I make it that far). This means that of those six, five will be rogues/warriors (2/3 or 3/2) and only one will be a mage. I also have to make sure to use each of the races and sexes about equally, too, to maximize the difference between them. All in all, it's much tougher to plan the play sequence with that sort of limit.
Ah well, I'll manage.

I just hope the warrior class isn't boring to play since I have 3 characters lined up for it.

I am guessing they will release more origins later for classes so I wouldn't be to worried besides they may have not allowed you to choose the other options just because the games not out and they wanna keep some of it for a surprise

to defend this decision of Bioware, i think its world history based
it might be as in the D&D movie where lots of mages ruled above the city, i mean the society might be like that, close, races not mattering for the mage society, and secretive
or if we want to name a "sci-fi" then it is Star Wars, its just like the Jedi, with the exception they mostly keep the world safe with simply keeping themself in check and watching out for corruption

Yeah who is watching over the Witch of the wild? How do we know she won't turn?

A hedge mage/witch of the wild would be an interesting origin. It would be pretty neat to have a story where you're being hunted by templars as a rogue mage and trying to just survive fora while.
