 Hey, I am trying to figure out how to activate the console on my steam version of DA2. The Dragon Age wiki says that the only way to activate it on steam is to edit the launcher file. Thats fine by me, but my problem is I can't seem to figure out how to edit it. I'm in Steamapps, then I go to common, then Dragon Age 2, and there I see a list of folders and 'DragonAge2Launcher'. I assume that is the file I am supposed to edit, but I cant figure out how to edit it. Double clicking on it just launches DA2, and going to properties doesn't get me anywhere.

Sorry I know this is stupid, but I'm stuck
Any help from someone more computer literate than me would be appreciated ;)

\\Dragon Age II\\data\\DragonAge2Launcher.xml is the file that you need to edit, according to the Wiki page that I used....

http://dragonage.wik...(Dragon_Age_II)

The file that you mentioned might well be the correct one if your file name extensions are hidden. To edit it, try right clicking the file in Windows Explorer. Look for an "edit" option near to the top of the list. Failing that, choose "Open with" and choose Notepad.

Thanks, I found out I was trying to look at the wrong file. I got everything in order, but I cant figure out whats wrong. My XML launcher file looks like

<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole" />

And KeyBindings looks like

OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_+

Any ideas what I messed up this time? ;)

I press "+" when I am running my game, and it doesn't seem to have any effects. I know the commands are supposed to be invisible, but as I type things in, all the hotkeys continue to function and Hawke moves around and screens pop up and stuff. If I continue with the commands anyway, after finishing and hitting "Enter" nothing happens. So I assume its not working

Note that the dev console - and anything you type into it - is invisible. Test for it being active using the movement keys, eg. A or D; you should not move because the keystrokes will actually be going to the console.

BTW don't forget to delete the "test" characters!

Yeah thats what I was saying, I can still move after hitting the key that is supposed to activate the console. I have tried several, including the tilde and +

:\\

Ill keep looking into things I may have done wrong for a while. Ill let you guys know in the unlikely event I manage to fix it on my own ;)

Bah! Ok thanks for your help JMC002. I saw on the help site try F6 if all else fails. Don't know how I managed to miss that. It works now. :D

I use F11 myself, but I suspect your problem with the plus key was , I believe, OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_+ should be OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Plus

Sorry for bumping a resolved thread, but figure it would be better to ask here rather then make a new thread.

Op mentions he has steam version but how come he has managed to edit XML files with no difficulty?
Steam refuses to launch if there are changes to xml launcher, always citing an error at a line (and no, it isnt just me who typed it wrong but copy pasted below what i typed just incase).

<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole" />

I'm running the Steam version and I have no problem making that modification. I still get achievements even.

EDIT: I would also add that it has to be in the correct location in the file. There are several similar looking lines.

One of the <condition> tags in the table looks like:

        <condition name="FirstRunCheck" type="FileExist" file="${USERDATA_DIR}\\SystemInformation.xml">
                <true ... />
                <false ... />
        </condition>

That true statement should be replaced with the line you have from the wiki.
