I was just wondering the same thing about the fire chain... I was thinking it might be worth it to get flaming weapons and fireball. Thoughts?

I love fireball playing in nightmare, 100 initial damage plus the burning. Its the only good direct damage AoE for nightmare really. My flame weapons adds +10 fire damage, +24 against enemies vulnerable to fire.
108 spell power ftw.
Lightning tree is by far the worst. No crowd control effects at all.

Fireball just rules, i always get it on my main mage simply couse it is always handy in a way(to take out those archers in those ambushes for example) exept for Telekinetic weapons i have rarely used the fire or ice ones, but since u need them for the better spells, i could always switch to them if needed. and ofc, ice forward!

So I understand Fireball is a Spell I should get. So just 3 points on Fire Chain or 4?

If u got another aoe spell, u can skip inferno, but otherwise get it, does some nice damage, but i prefer blizzard more, better CC spell that one.

True. I got the first three Fire & Ice I thinking how what one to get. I was thinking of getting Inferno because of the items I got so far. Items with +10% fire dmg I got a few of them. The staff with 10% Ice dmg worth I think like 96 Gold and I just a few hour in the game I do not have it. My highest gold so far was I think 23 Gold. Maybe I just save the point with I would of spend on Inferno or Blizzard for later.

Well, i have the same problem with getting gold, just do as much sidequests as u can, most give u 2 to 3g, and don't be ashamed to ask for a reward at some quests, u'd be suprised at what they sometimes give.
As for gear, well, u'll find more then eneugh +dam gloves in the game, and The warden's keep DLC gives u a nice frost staff if u spare the mage, and i highly suggest u get that content, greatly enhances the game(not to mention the power of blood talents u get there!)
but just get blizzard, or if u don't need it that much, spend it on something else(glyph spells are a great start)

Ok. Right now I about level 8 at the Mage Tower. This is like my 15 person I made. I just can not think of what Spells I would like. I Soloing the game. I don't use NPC for nothing somewhat. I use the girl to open chest I know I will lose so much EXP if I did not use her for chest opening.
But other then that I use not NPC for nothing.
Qestion: I understand if I use Blizzard monster will get a + to there Fire res..... (can't spell it) I just want to know if I use a Fireball to knock the monster down and set them on fire say the dmg of each sec they are on fire it take 20 HP away if I cast Blizzard on them if the monster is on fire would it do the same dmg for each sec or would the dmg drop down to like 15 HP each sec.

personally I think that fireball or earthquake stack nicely with any AoE spell. Blizzard and Death Magic is wonders with a death hex on the badest bad guy

Any of you have any suggestions on what the best gear is for an AW/BM build along the lines of what Arius and Colma have suggested on these forums? (the "solo nightmare tank" build) ?

So I read in the skill description that the arcane mastery skill increases your spell power. Would this skill be beneficial for arcane warriors? Would the increase spellpower = increase melee damage or something?

Are the ice spells really that important? I pretty much stopped using them once I got to 7 and spec'd arcane warrior.

@ DA, if u cast fireball in a blizzard there's a big chance its negated when it hits, meaning, that nobody get knocked down and does't get set on fire.
@Socks972, i would say so! ice is the best CC tree in the game, the fact that u can freeze a group and then shatter them is quite powerful, even more for an AW, since with any luck u can shatter them straight away. and it also works on bosses, so if u don't use them for the big groups u encounter,do it for the time it buys u when facing a dragon or so.
And about Arcane mastery, i don't know, exstra SP is always handy, but the magic stat gives u more melle dam as an AW, and spellpower is simply the damage in total u do, so i could be handy, but check gamebanschee or the wiki to see in how much points it boosts, otherwise it would be a waste to put so many points in that tree.
