So I keep getting issues when I render lightmaps with black artifacts everywhere.
As shown on the first 2 images on this site: http://bg2redux.stud...ialLightmapping
Deleting old lightmaps and redoing the lightmaps fixes it.
But this happens almost every time I generate new lightmaps, is this normal? Is it always buggy? Or is there something wrong on my end?
is the lightmap always buggy?

It certainly pays to delete everything in the list of folders given here before light mapping.
Sadly, the automated tool mentioned in that thread doesn't work for me. I use CCleaner, which removes the Windows temporary files automatically and can be configured to purge other folders.
This not only improves the result, but makes the light mapper run faster.
Removing the roof before lightmapping often helps, too.
Installing tmp7704's excellent mesh lightmap fixes will prevent those black triangles that won't go away owing to model defects. I put it in packages override, so that it affects the toolset, but exclude that folder from my player package.

@Semper - thanks. Which project is that file available from?
Incidently, I'm having a problem with fca_lrgwall04_0.
There are three black triangles above the doorway:

Is this a similar issue?

Genius!
Thanks.
Can you provide a link to the parent page?
I've updated my credits to thank you for this, but I can only quote the file url as plain text, because Word expects hyperlinks to target pages for some reason.

Yeah for indoor levels with low roofs (coincidently maybe but consistently for me) I need to purge old lightmap files before re-lightmapping or have mayor corruption every time.
Not had such issues with two story high roofed buildings or large structures like my chantry etc.
Bit of a pita, but well, I keep 4 folders open at all times for easy access when working on indoor levels and gotten really quick with finding and deleting the files now =P
Doesn't bother me so much anymore, anyways.
