It seems ridiculous to you, but it's clearly important to her. Merrill understands the dangers involved, and is willing to pay with her life. Anders also assumes that she doesn't understand the risks, but she clarifies this point when she says, "Anders... there's no such thing as a good spirit. There never was. All spirits are dangerous. I understood that. I'm sorry that you didn't."
And yet she continues, putting at risk not just herself but potentially a lot of people around her. It's a bit like saying I know it's dangerous to walk into oncoming traffic but I'll do it anyway. She either doesn't really grasp the danger or is arrogant enough to believe that she can avoid the consequenses if she's tricky enough.
The Dalish treasure the past and mourn the loss of their culture particularly the keepers as it is part of their role to remember. The demon may have already exerted a fair amount of influence on Merrill taking advantage of this desire to steer her down a path she may not have taken if left to her own devices.
