I don't know. It was a study done on Fox News, about cross dressing gamers. They were able to prove that male gamers who played as women instead of men were more likely to either dress up in women's clothing or have done so in the past.

Judging by how many guys here admit to playing as women, it shouldn't take long to find the guy you're looking for.

Goodness.... I'm a crossdressing tranvestite closet-gay... and all these years I never knew.....:lol::lol: I better get myself a new wardrobe.

Same here. We should start a self-help group for those poor suckers like us who have been turned into Transvestites by RPGs..........

Funny enough stripping naked and slapping Loghain to death in the dual in DAO was something I greatly enjoyed. Just as imagination to humiliate him for what he had done of which I did as a female character in game.

Now if you would excuse me I have to go find and put on a flower patterned pink dress because Fox news tells me so. Image IPB

And I suppose women who play as male characters have a tendency to wear trousers and-- oh wait. >.>

My theory is that it's the only way the guys can get a girl to do what they want all the time.

Unlike the way things are in the real world... ;)

I always play the first playthrough as a male as i am one and enjoy the story, gameplay etc.
The second playthrough i go through as a female and do whatever i missed the first time around and try to romance every other female in the game.

Girl on Girl FTW :o

I really can't understand why some people have a problem with this.
For example, if you want to play this character (or a character like her), does that make you gay or a cross-dresser? Or a confused teenager? Awesomeness isn't gender- dependant.

I'm female and always play female chars...it just helps in immersion imo since I'm one of those who puts part of themselves in each char.

I tried playing a guy back in WoW but I constantly feared I'd make him giggle or blush.  Then when I tried to act like a gentleman, some girl char started crushing on me

people shouldn't use WoW for such 'experiments'

a large group of people who plays WoW uses it as chatroom, and tries to hook
such individuals are quite superficial in the understanding of the term roleplay and are shocked to know that a female toon could be played by a male

The odds are that female character that started crushing on you was in fact played by a boy. ;) Oh, WoW community, I do not miss thee.

yeah, I've known better to assume any "girl" in an online game actually has a uterus ;) and I'm happy to say it's been 3 yrs since I set foot in that game

Well done! *gives you a pat on the back* You are a stronger person than I. I played that darn game for six years but have been free of it since Cataclysm was released. That finally gave me the impetus to leave it behind. ;)

Male MMO players have been playing females for yonks. I wonder why FOX never said anything sooner. >.>

The best argument I have ever heard for it is: " Why is it strange that I want to watch a female's ass for 40 hours of gameplay, and not a male's ass?".

Many people play RPG's because they want to play a role that isn't their own. Don't see a problem with it. For me, personally, playing a female character in RPG's can be hard.

This. And in both ME2 and DA2, because the female voice actor is better than the guy.

There are some factors many people are forgetting :)

Roleplaying is about escapism and wish fulfillment.

If some guys secretly have a desire to be a woman, be loved by a man, etc, hey more power to them. >:)

It's something I will never understand though (sue me, I actually like being male and playing male characters).

One of the things I like about Bioware games is that the more recent ones allow me to represent myself on the screen. I have a Commander Shephard who is recognizably me and a DA:O human noble who's even better. (I made a character in Oblivion who was an absolute dead ringer for me in my early 20's, but I never did manage to grit my teeth through that wonky game system. Someday, perhaps.)

So, my male characters tend to be a little more first-person for me, and female characters are more third-person, and run for the purposes of exploring different content.

I found a Fox study that says people with the name prefix "Shiro" are cross-dressing elf-fantasizers. It's a fact.

I wonder if there's a compiled list of these supposed facts. Would make for a fun read. >.>

Because there is nothing more platonic beautiful and epic than a woman
who kill a high dragon? For me is only for the sake of the tale, however, a can't do any romance
when i play a female caracter, its much more personal!

For the anime watching fanbois there is weird cartoony character (Merril?Fenris?), for those really kinky there is Liara.  I

Eh Liara is the most innocent and non-kinky of all LIs ever created.

So innocent that she doesn't see why there'd be anything odd about a three-way, IIRC.

I try to mix it up a bit.

The ass argument probably holds true for me as well. But another reason is that if I play something very different than myself, I feel forced to think a little bit more about who that character is. If I play male human (like myself) the story and choices tend to end up a bit generic.

Oh and I think the argument of pretending to control a woman have some truth to it as well. I mean what man wouldn't want to have that power. ;-)

Well, you can't have a tranquil "personal assistant" in real life, so that's the next best thing :P (Just kidding! Don't hit me!)

Oh... MY... GOD!!!
We need to create a tranquil-making machine.

But wait a minute... Am I just forgetful, or have we actually seen any female tranquils? I can't remember a single one.
