Why is it that some sexually insecure teenager has to ask this same question on every RPG forum in existence? Why do you give a flying rat's ass how other people play the game they paid for? Did your pathetic ERP attempt in some mmo turn out to be a dude? Let people play how they want. What's it to you?

It's a sin against God to pretend to be a woman. God made you a man for a reason.

I know your jealous. Sorry you were made a woman. But a woman pretending to be a man is a sin too.

Oh can't stop laughing, muppets. :D

Why is it so hard to understand??

I play RPGs to diddle with female NPCs! HARHARHAR!Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Leliana?? I diddle Posted Image
Morrigan?? I diddle Posted Image
Merril?? I diddle Posted Image
Isabella?? I diddle Posted Image
Bethany?? Oh how I wish I can diddle Posted Image
Leandra?? A bit grey...but still I diddle Posted Image
Aveline?? She has more testosterone than male Hawke but still I diddle Posted Image

I have nothing against players who want female avatar...but the idea of whiny Anders of frowning Fenris doing bush snuggles with my character makes me uncomfortable Posted Image

btw...anyone noticed that Hawke's sister is the hottest female in DA2?? Sad that Bioware didnt make her diddle-lable...Posted Image

This - and for me another element comes into play. Movies, games and the world is full of hunks saving the day. Its quite boring to play another one.

I played a female shepard to hear the voice actress' take on the character, mostly. Like O Tucker, I liked her performance very much. (Meershep's better in some areas, whereas Femshep's voice just seems to carry more weight/convey emotion better.)

Other than that, meh. I'd never play a woman in a tabletop game, though. Too weird for my blood. >_>

Eh Liara is the most innocent and non-kinky of all LIs ever created.

So innocent that she doesn't see why there'd be anything odd about a three-way, IIRC.

Three way? What are you talking about? :o

No joke...she's my LI in my paragon run and I don't remember her ever making that offer :o

You can [role]play the girl of your dreams. Especially if you haven't met your ideal dream girl yet.

Transgender.
Major depression.

So..... I tend to play as girls in games. It's kind of like being who I am inside for once.

But, for most guys its about being horny.

I think that is your depression speaking - while some in this thread express that reason, many don't, and I'm mostly reacting to the use of the word horny.

For I'll admit that I prefer characters in my litterature, games and movies that I'm attracted to, but I'd use attraction in the wide sense, and not only as in sexual attraction. For example I like characters that struggle with themselves, to better themselves, as in Bubbles from the Wire for I too, like most people, struggle to improve and better myself.

[smilie]http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2009/05/11/bubbles-the-wire.jpg[/smilie]

And I'm attracted to, interested in, characters that are different, and present cognetive dissonance to who I am, and thus I'm drawn to roles/characters different from myself as well, as in people who are sure of themselves, and don't struggle and fight with their inner daemons, or anything else to set them apart from myself.

And I think that most/many people that play roleplaying games for your chance to explore different roles/characters, play characters of various stripes for similar reasons, their own set of personal attractions, that rarely are so easy as just plain old lust.

And Bubbles is a fine example for me since the character is one I'd never feel any sort of physical attraction to, nor want to be, but that I'm attracted to for his journey.

Oh yeah, I totally get from where your coming from- but have you looked at the clothing mods, and huge boob mods for these types of games? That's most definitely the realm of 'the Johnson'. I'm just saying, there's a hell of a lot of guys, and girls who play as the opposite gender for purely sexual reasons.

+EDIT+
Dw, i'm not offended. I've lost most of my emotioal range so yeah :o.

True, the keyword being character. Some people like playing a fiction. They'll see a RPG and think "I want to be a dwarf of the opposite gender with x and y character traits."

Other like playing avatars. They'll see an RPG and they'll pick a human warrior, or the equivalent and interact directly with the game without the character having a personality of its own.

And there's a lot of approaches in between. So I'm very tired of the "Playing a female when you're male is weird !" and the "I'd rather look at a female butt" argument.

That depressions and pessimism are connected?

& I have no problem with people that suffer depressions, and it's a natural reaction to cope problems in life, nor do I see a reason to dance around the subject. Or I've been depressed thrice in my life (at 14-15, 26 and at 28-30) and and I would have had no problem if someone had said that my gloomy outlook on life stemmed from my depressed state, and while I might have refuted it I got more issues with those that try to ignore it out of some fear that I would have been hurt by it.

Wow, I feel like a power ranger now. A depression ranger! Mighty Mrophin Depression Rangers.

But in all seriousness, I gave reason for my assumption in my previous post.

Yeah, but you posted it after I had started my reply about me being out of line, so didn't reply to those assumptions, but I can do so now ~

Or I do think that there is a large group of horny boys that does this, guys that want skimpy women running around in rags so revealing that you can't call them clothes - but more like rope and strings.

Just saying that I don't think that most men/boys that will start up a female character in a roleplaying game, at least among those that intend to roleplay, don't do so because they are horny.

Perhaps I'm simply an optimist ~ but anyway.
& I don't do it for the backsides, or if that was the only reason it would be a weak one in BioWare games since you can always just control a female companion for all the itinerary lengths of the game (I have to admit that I did feel a physical attraction to Bastila during my walkabouts in KoToR when I first played it) .

Also if you check the mods in question on the Nexus, the amount of downloads on the skimpy wear won't represent your argument well, since while the number of downloads can be high, it's not really high enough in themselves to represent the fairly large group that either always, or sometimes, play female characters in cRPGs. (I've read some studie long long ago, and can't remember where, and the procentages are too fuzzy for me to even try to argue from, but if my memory does serve me it was rather common).

Obviously I could be wrong, since I mostly assume as well.

And yeah, one good thing about depressions is that it's hard to be emotionally moved and angered ~ people just thought me chill, cool and relaxed the last time - sometimes I miss it, well not really since me not giving a damn ruined too many good things, but still ~

At least the "I'd rather look at a female butt" claim that it's their own reason, the annoying ones are those that claim that you are either weird, or that you are simply thinking with your **** ~ or I guess vagina if you are female and play males, but that saying has less of a ring to it ~

What the hell is with all these dudes playing female characters in a Role Playing Game?

Who knows why they do it? More to the point why do you care? I sure as hell dont .
Btw if you look up the feedback that Bioware has collected there is a ratio of something like 80/20 ..male/female respectively. so thats roughly 20 percent of guys being gals including real female players .
Id hazard a guess at these players enjoying more a third person narrative, than a first person narrative that i enjoy

At least those guys are honest, I say. I don't hold it against them, anyway.

See, what does that say about me? I play female characters because I relate to them, but I'm attracted to females as well. I'm not looking to romance the character I'm playing though, although I do like her to look somewhat appealing. Just thought I'd complicate matters a little. ;)

Because its so much better to stare at a female ass and some boobs while playing for hours in 3ed perspective.... lol! xD

No srsly, i switch between Male and Female Chars as I like. Its just that i have read so many novels, seen so many movies etc with the generic alpha male Character and some pretty dolled up girl on his side. (James Bond, Braveheart etc etc)
And i think its quite simply more interesting to play a badass female, and see how people inside the gameworld react to that. Sadly thats not good enough implementet imo. But yeah, i guess thats the main reason why i play female Characters every so often.

You are just confused about your sexuality.

Seek medical help if possible. Perhaps Psychiatric.

...

I'm not getting the hubbub though. I can understand the reluctance or difficult of a man playing as a woman character, but why be uncomfortable or have issues when others choose to do so?

It's like role playing as an Elf or Dwarf.

The issue also rather reminds me of the issues "totally not insecure" heterosexuals have with homosexual romances.

Yeah, that's how I'm feeling too. If the writers did a good job, there's indeed a difference between male and female reception in RPGs.

Why the heck not? I'm a dude and I don't play a female character for my first run, but almost always for my 2nd run at least. It's called role-playing. Why not see what it's like from the other side?

Plus, male Hawke wears pyjamas. Lady Hawke is stacked to the nines, and she's voiced like a British fantasy, AND she kicks-ass. Why wouldn't I play her?

For once, I'm neither an elf nor mage/biotic either. Or, like in the ME series, the female voice shows much emotions. I can relate to that far better, since I'm quite emotional myself. And sometimes I'm just sick of the generic male hero trope - been there, done that. If I can shake this up, either by playing a different race or gender, why not? Isn't that the reason why we play RPGs?
