Whew. I thought I was the only one who thought it looked totally atrocious. It was like... it's... ugh.
Yeah her walking animation is ok. I guess it's supposed to be a sexy saunter, but they used the same animation for running, which looks silly.

Roleplaying usually means, playing a different person, not the one you are. And I admit I like girls and consider them very interesting, that's probably the reason I'm heterosexual. The boobs and watching a butt for 80 hours has nothing to do with it, although aesthetics certainly play a role in it too - dudes are less pleasing to the eye. Still, my appreciation for the opposite gender goes beyond boobs and rearsides. Maybe look at it like creating a character you'd like to go out with in RL or whatever, the emotional attachment to her would be stronger than to some Chuck-Norris-kill'emall GI dude. I was never able to get into any of those usual GI-Joe male protagonists in any game, just like I'd never want to chat with Duke Nukem in a pub, while talking to Cate Archer would be fun for sure.

This is the main reason I play female characters in games like FO2, and the main reason I managed to play through ME1-2 with a male sheppard.
Still haven't managed to do so in DA2, but we'll see.

I don't like the male or the female normal running animations - and there is a mod over at the nexus so you can get male animations for women - and the reverse ~
But then since I like neither it doesn't really help - at least I like it when they run with weapons in DA2 opposed to DA:O

Plus the whole 'Why do you want to roleplay what you're' .. So i`m a warrior from a noble family that saved Felreden from a horde of darkspawn and defeated the Archdemon at the top of the tower.I don't pick the answer that Suprez COusland would pick .. But the answer i would pick if i were Suprez Cousland ..
BTW roleplaying myself it's much harder than roleplaying Suprez Cousland . Because in real life you can actually fail

Exactly. I don't like to miss things. That, and I always make my archers and mages female, and warrior type classes male.
I played through once as a female in ME2, but it just didn't feel right.

I can understand that plenty of male players have no objections to watching a womans ass all game (Though please guys, dont judge us girls IRL because we'll never look like Lara Croft). I read a study once for a class on this, talking about how the concept of you, as a male gamer, being able to control a female character is a subconcious desire. But that might just be a load of bull, its prolly just the want of a change of pace.
From my experience, most of the games I play and know about the main character is a
male. This makes sense, you can get away with more having a male main because of tradtional gender roles and that the majority of players are men. And while I wish there were more women, you know I feel pretty badass all the same playing as Ezio, or John Marston, or Gordon Freeman.
So with a world full of male mains just having a female switches it up a bit. I personally don't care what gender people play as. Whatever floats your boat.

I don't see why a man needs to go off and play a girl character. Unless he has some identity issues.
This is of course my opinion.

Heh, it's fun how that works, recently someone questioned why anyone would want to play as the snarky lady Hawke, and it's probably my favorite VO/path in DA2.
Personally I can't stand Meer in combination with the animation for Sheppard (the creepy face you have seen around the net being one example).
Each to their own in this ~

Maybe they want to see the game from to different perspectives, or make their following playthoughs as different as possible.
My question is why do people care, and why are people so insecure with themselves that they can't play a female in a video game. If a game came out with only a female MC, would these people not play it just for that reason no matter how good of reviews it got?

I would love to see this, and I would be happy if a quality cRPG came out with a female lead and it sold well, or even if games like ME2 promoted female Sheppard instead of male Sheppard.
I'm personally hoping for something like an expansion of tW2 with Triss as the lead character.
Edit: For me it's not important, it would just be fun/interesting to see.

Because, as shocking as this may sound, there are people comfortable enough in their sexuality that they aren't intimidated or confused by a female character. Or fending off gay ("Merry?" "No, just happy.") virtual suitors, for that matter.
The real question should be why are you so weirded out by pixletits?
This.
I'm not sure which I find stranger: that people find it so weird that guys play as women, or that people don't seem to understand what it is to immerse themselves in a story.
I'm a gal, and spent most of my gaming life being forced to play as a male. There were no female avatars for a while there, so unless I wanted to stick with Mrs. PacMan (a pioneer in female gaming, btw) I had a play as a guy. Is my personality stunted somehow from playing as a "man" (does Mario count as a man?) No.
Or is it weird if I play as a guy now? I don't think so. Most games, I prefer to play as a woman. Jade Emprie, for example, I played as a female first, but I prefered the game with a male avatar. Maybe it was that the DawnStar subplot made more sense that way. I dunno - the game was a richer story and role playing experience for me when seen through the eyes of a male protagonist. Other games - like the Mass Effect series and DA - I find richer when told with a female hero in the lead.
There's this assumption that playing as a person makes you into that person somehow. Not true. It's not unlike choosing to read a book or watch a movie with a main character of an opposite gender - or even writing a story in which you make the main character the opposite gender of you. Does watching Firefly mean I want to become Mal Reynolds? Maybe in some ways, but not in becoming a dude. Does writing a story about a guy mean I want to become one? Hardly.
Short story:
Clearly there's some confusion going on here between what it means to enjoy a story and what it means to wish you're something your not.

Anyone who plays a game were the main character is a robot or hedgehog or anything else non-human also has considerable issues.
Strategy games are only for the narcissistic with dreams of grandeur.
We should also avoid games were you play as a mage, or a space marine, since that's not what the player is either.
Seriously, I can't see how this is an issue to somebody. It's preference, and there are plenty or different reason for different people.
I remember a game being announced a few years ago with a fixed female lead. Alot of the first page of comments was people saying they wouldn't play it because they had to be a woman. How the heck they think female gamers get on, I have no idea..randName wrote...

Well gamers are anger prone, and very covetous, or you have a similar thread, or had - over at the witcher forums for lack of graphical options (esp. aspect ratios).
I always feel a stab of guilt when I write "and I won't buy", since it's so silly that my indignation over their work should make them suddenly change their minds and do their best to please me - better that we put forth good arguments for or against (and personally I prefer the option to play either, but I also like stories like that of Geralt, and would like to see more of these, and would have no problems playing through a game with a female lead).

And what is the problem? Im sure many Girls play one playthrough with a male character. If there is the option to choose the gender i always make 2 playthrough. One with a male character, the second with a female character. Its just for my curiosity to see all cutscene, possibilities and so on.okrane_silver wrote...

No idea where that came from, but there's a list of memorable games with female leads that sold very well, and surely not only to female gamers, if at all. The obvious start would be Tomb Raider (although I'd even go back to Giana Sisters) , and back in the days I played various games like No One Lives Forever, Oni, or to throw in one of the more ridiculous and male-fantasy titles, "Heavy Metal FAKK" that were surely not made for girl gamers only. Recently I played Venetica, another RPG with a female lead, sadly it fails for other reasons than the adorable protagonist. Someone who can't live with the idea of a male playing a female char must have issues anyway, but especially after a long time of games featuring female leads I really don't get it.
