I do not see a reason NOT to play a female character... Sexism is bad.

I remember a game being announced a few years ago with a fixed female lead. Alot of the first page of comments was people saying they wouldn't play it because they had to be a woman. How the heck they think female gamers get on, I have no idea..

That was one of the things said about FFX-2.

And here I thought you played girls in FF since VII ~

There have been girls in FF's before. For a short time Cecile is the lead in FFVI. But in FFX-2 the party for the game was 3 girls and the combat system revovled around changing their outfits "magical girl" style. It's just another way of doing the job system but a lot of people complained about it.

It was just a stupid joke btw, the normal jab that most of the main FF characters looks like girls - nvm it.

In my case it's simple. I like the female VO better and I'm sick to death of generic male hero types which the games industry is overcrowded with. An option for diversity by playing a female character? Yes, please!

If anyone seriously reads more into this, then I'll just say that's their own insecurities talking.

I'm not sure why you care. Its not like you go cruising to pick up chicks in a single player game.  You can only 'crying game' yourself (unless you visit the Rose)

Basically what Delerius said. I'm a little tired of the stereotype macho male characters in games, like Sheploo. I have nothing against Mark Meer or anything, I just prefer Hale's voice and playing a female Shepard. I enjoy roleplaying as all sorts of different characters. Nowadays, I tend to prefer playing a female character. That's all there is to it.

I love how he gives us the answer in that question ~

I play both. DA:O I have finished with both genders, and while the differences were subtle, they were enough to be worthwhile.

But actually, ME was what got me on the bandwagon. I simply could not stand the voice of Mark Meer. I was about to give up on the game, before deciding to give FemShep a shot. And I loved Jenifer Haley's voice. On top of that, it added something to the game I had not tried in an RPG before, so I've taken a few of my old favourites and replayed them with a female character.

In the end, it is all about playing a role. I don't try to project myself into a game, I try to create a believable and fun character.

I'll be playing the female character in this one as well. Just like her skill set more and being able to overlook the battle field suits my playstyle.

Um, taking on a role of a character of something other than themselves?  It can get quite boring playing as an exact replica of yourself.  Other cool dudes have said the male protogonist is a bit old and females in main roles are refreshing.  And they all still have all their testorone intact.  Who knew?!!!

You do know that Shepard is a soldier... not a poet? What do you expect him to be like? He's hardly your usual steroid-freak, with an unwashed mouth... :kissing:

He almost never swears, and when he does it's mild. His dialogue is well-written... Shepard definitely isn't the type of character Duke Nukem stereotypes.

Because I prefer FemShep and firmly believe she's the superior version? Oh, and this is coming from someone whose canon Shepard is Sheploo.

Dudes making threads with the title "Dudes playing Female Characters" in every single MMO/RPH forum on the net... what is on their minds?
Why do they care?
Are they so worried about their own sexuality that this becomes a major source of concern?

Enough said!

Dudes post these kinds of threads everytime they are having a crush on female PC in a MMORPG and find out it's a dude. Nerdrage.

LOL you're probably right and boy wonder here got tricked into playing a sausage instead of a clam ;)

I'm a guy. I have both male and female characters. Who cares? It's a game.

In the Fallout series female characters always had a distinct advantage since most of the enemies and NPCs you encounter were male. It was much easier to manipulate and get what you want as a high charisma female character than a similar male character. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas female characters could get the Black Widow perk which is a 10% damage bonus against male NPCs in combat, which is like 70% of the NPCs in the game. Thus proving their inherent superiority!

Plus everyone notices a good looking female character right away, they draw the eye like a magnet.

I don't particularly like DudeShep in ME, but I won't go into the reasons why because I'd be beating a horse so dead it's atoms no longer exist.  I play femshep because I like the voice better and, yeah, I am a bit sick of the "male space marine" stereotype.  I want the character I play to be more than just the person in front of the mouse.  Personally, if I could, I would play maleShep, but the game isn't set up for the type of guy I want to play.  Because really, I want to be a lumberjack, leaping from tree to tree ...

Seriously, who the f*ck cares.

I don't see anything wrong with choosing either male / female

It's cool to see what differences there are when you play as the differ sex.

It's not gay, just think. Chicks have to play as male characters most of the time, i.e FPS games

And yet his default appearance is based on a fashion model. Supposedly there to serve the purpose of making him look like your regular James Bond. A real charmer, attractive appearance,  and knows how to handle a gun. I have nothing against anyone playing the male character. I merely see Shepard as a female. That's all. ;)

Male Shepard is ugly and his voice acting is lame as hell. He has like no emotion in his voice. He does improve in ME2, but not by much. Fem. Shep = superior voice acting

I've played my fair share of Gears of War and Call of Duty games and I've yet to grow a beard or gain an extra appendage.  :o

I didn't know an infected hair on an elephant's rear end was sentient enough to play RPGs.

I can't play as a woman(in any RPG) because I can't bang men, and I like to play the defualt character, Garrett Hawke, anyway.

After thinking about it some more I have decided to delete my post. The intonation of the OP's post tells me that he doesn't want an answer at all. Instead he just wants a confirmation of his own opinion.

I do it so people will start a new thread like this every couple weeks. Seriously, do a forum search, this has been discussed to death.
