Fallout 2 for example. NPC reactions were alot different and certain avenues could be explored for solving quests that were impossible with a male character.
Trying something new, see what was missing in the game, etc....watch everything under a new perspective. Even then my first time, or times is always as a male character.
Unless I am actually running around pretending to have breasts, and wondering what it would be like to not have anything dangling between my legs, feeling pretty with a dress on, I fail to see the issue.
Leading others to believe you are female in a MMO and even do 18+ things with them, now that I can see the problem.
In a single player game? Give me a break.
I suppose next there will be an issue with women playing Half-Life or other FPS as the role of a gun totting man. Sheesh.

In MMOs men use female gender roles to obtain free items, help with levels and such. In RPGs it's done for fresh perspective and differences in perceptions and narration. There is also the element of men find females attractive, if your playing as the role of 'looking in through the glass at anothers life' like in DA2 it comes down to would you rather look at a man or woman. Others play as themselves in RPGs (placing themselves in the situations/world and role) ones that contain half decent CCs and they tend to play as themselves first then female to see what difference would have made. From the simple fact your thread title contains the word "dudes" it would suggest to me that you are a young man maybe late teens early 20's and simply aren't old enough to realise the differences on your own that comes from experience and age, hence the question.

To be honest I could never see myself playing as a women because I am not one. Nor do I have any desire to be.
Me neither, yet i only play with female characters. But that's the difference, i play "with" the characters, not "as" the characters. Maybe that is also the reason why "Hawke" was easier to me swallow than some other people?
Well I play as a male for one because I am a male. And two because it's easier to relate and roleplay because I'm a male. Also I don't have a problem if that's your reason for playing a female but those who play because they like looking at pixelated chicks are odd to me (trying to be nice).
Well, everybody is crazy if you look close enough
I still don't understand why it's weird to find videogame characters attracting. After all, in the case of DA2, the characters are made to look exactly like real humans. I'd prefer Liara over Hawke though, but that's just my xenophilia talking

If you didn't understand, watch this.
I can perfectly understand why some people want to play female character.

How is this thread still going? Look, there's the same misunderstanding here as in when people think ballet classes are for gay men.

LOL, totally loved the link, maybe I'll take up ballet after seeing this!

Y'know, I didn't even notice this was in the DA2 forums. LOL. DA, I play both genders. You get hit on Anders either way, so what's the dif?
FemHawke doesn't get time to consider it, in as much detail as she fancies.

There's nothing wrong playing a female character as a male or playing a male character as a female. It's not like it affects your life outside the game.
This.
There is no "true" way to do any of the romances either.

Dry sarcasm aside. I doubt it matters either way. Quite a handful of games now offer different dialogue options based upon gender, the most recent in my memory being Fallout 3: New Vegas and its "Black Widow" perk. While I may not always play a female character on my first playthrough or even my second, in most games it will inevitably occur due to sheer dialogue curiosity. What more do you want from me? I want to explore all facets of the game and if that involves me role-playing as a woman for a playthrough, why not? My psychiatrist is not standing behind me, clucking in disapproval when I do this...not yet anyways

I dont mind playing a male in the Witcher - just don't like having to play someone "old". That being said I don't get why some modern games don't offer both male and female roles - just seems lazy on their part

What the hell is with all these dudes playing female characters in a Role Playing Game?
What the hell is with all these dudes playing elves or humans?
What the hell is with all these dudes playing a different race or ethnicity than their own?
I don't know, Captain Hillbilly.
But since you haven't respunded to your own thread you obviously just here to troll. What the hell is up with the inbreeding these days? Why did you play elf? Oh yeah, I know, because you are a dude that goes for that kind of stuff.

There's really no reason to roleplay as a woman unless you like pretending to be one.

According to your logic, I also like to kill people with a big ass sword and shoot them with a Desert Eagle. Oh and according to RDR, I also like to tie people and place them on railtracks. And I also like to... well... kill people in every manner possible.
And I like to sell torn trousers on the market.
Thank you for making me realize this!

It's funny because he's got the name of a girly anime character. A character who is also VOICED by a woman.
A guy who likes pretending to be a woman and calling out others of his kind. NICE.
