I just remembered, in my last play through of ME2 my Shep. actually spoke to the council and regained my Spectre status. As you can imagine that puts me and (probably many others), in a unique position. For, if this "trial" on Earth actually starts before the Reapers decide to show up for some afternoon snacks, I could simple remind the Alliance brass, World courts and Batarian Hegemony that "Umm... I'm a Spectre... so the only people I technically answer to are the council members...".
I understand that given the events of ME2 and the Arrival DLC the Alliance and Batarian Hegemony must have more than a few questions for me but in reality I don't answer to them. I'm a full paragon soldier and ultimately I did what I had to do to stop... post-pone the Reaper invasion. Understandably I deeply regret the loss of 300,000+ Batarians, Dr. Kenson and working with Cerberus etc... but still I'm a Spectre, aside from the Council demanding answers I could technically refuse to answer any questions or even partake in the trial in the first place.

Thoughts?

-Hawk

P.S. considering I'm a nice guy/paragon, in reality I would have no problems justifing myself in an open court however I still believe the option of simply refusing to answer/partake in the trial is/should be there (for all those renegades out thereImage IPB)

You should ad a spoiler tag.

But yes. The spectre thing makes the trial moot. But bioware needs us to be on earth for the invasion and this is the best they could think of -.-

Spectres have no authority in the terminus systems so you being a Spectre dosen't matter.

They can deny your Spectre status being regained.
Nobody can prove Shepard is still a Spectre.

Turian Councilor: "Ah yes, Shepard's status as a Spectre... we have dismissed that claim"

Shepard: "I... should go"Image IPB

Still doesnt matter. You cant judge a spectre as an alliance soldier(which shepard isnt anymore) just cause he didnt have authority.

Thats the councils job.
Saren blew up eden prime. Did he get a turian trial on Palaven? NO.

Anyways, the council could just renounce your status. You kind of did blow up an entire system, and to the council the Reapers do not exist, so you pretty much threatened citadel space by attacking the Batarians.

You think being a spectre is something they just agree on? -.- They type it into the galactic database with their personal council verification passwords. Andersson was there when they did it and hes on the council now(or udina)
How else do you think everyone KNOWS youre a spectre when you travel to noveria for example? They log on and verify it.
They dont give the council a call and ask them over the phone -.-

Actually sir, you are mistaken. Anderson was attending the meeting with Shepard when they spoke with the council at Anderson's office. So technically Anderson would be a witness.

It would be very easy for the council to simply move the trial to earth as a political move to avoid an all-out war with the Terminus systems. Political maneuvering is done all the time and I doubt it's missing from the mass effect universe.

Didn't Tela Vasir say something that acknowledges the council gave you your status back when you first meet her in Lair of the Shadowbroker?

Alliance Brass: "So you destroyed a Mass Relay, an entire system, killed 300,000 plus Batarians, worked with a known terrorist organization and post-poned a so called Reaper invasion?"

Shepard: "I say good day to you sir..."  + 25 Renegade

lolyeaaaah...My Shep's a Spectre, too. Other governments have no right/power/jurisdiction placing a Spectre on trial. Sets a really bad precedent. Only the council can question my Shep with any authority, so I hope they're the ones at that trial...otherwise I hope for an option to tell the alliance to bug off.

Saren was stripped of his Spectre status for attacking Eden Prime.

I'm sure destroying an entire solar system beats that.

And the council will have to be the ones to make that determination, not the Alliance.

I guess this just proves that some things like regaining your Spectre status in ME2 do not carry over/have any affect in ME3.

Do you really think the Council is just going to say "NO STFU" to all the people that are going to protest to what Shepard did?

Last I heard, they didn't run a dictatorship.

Again: It doesn't matter. Shepard, as a Spectre, only answers to the council. Period. It doesn't matter if Shepard lit a bag of puppies on fire, it will have to be the council who makes any real determination.

Nobody said that. Just you.
What we are saying is that the council should either be at the trail leading it or it should take place it the citadel. The council are the only ones who have authority to judge spectres for their actions

Like with Saren when Shepard proved he attacked Eden Prime with Geth?
