Leandra and Gamlen

And about Gamlen, he's really irresponsible but I've known a lot of people like him, even in my family. He isn't that bad, he is genuinely worried by Leandra's disappearance and truly sad when she's gone. He did love her. The question is, why doesn't Hawke invite him to live in the estate? It's only basic charity, and it was his childhood home too, even if he was the one who lost it. He's the only family Hawke has left.

KILL HIM!!!
Just joking. I did find it funny when my Hawke opened his mouth in shock though but the story for me was shocking and I really didn't expect that to happen. That quest was one of the best quests I've seen in an RPG for some time.

Also Gamlen is a creepy voyeur who like to get all up in your sexytime details. Awkward.

I definitely got the sense that Gamlen was fighting years of resentment toward Leandra and that they'd finally gotten past it not long before she got zombified.

edit:
as for the others, I think Isabela's perfectly happy living how she is. or at least she's convinced herself that she is anyway
Aveline and Donnic likely have their own home, we just don't get to see it since Aveline's a workaholic
Fenris makes it quite clear that he wants to stay in that manor, first in the hope that Danarius would come for him so he could kill him and later because it's become something of a comfort zone for him and he's not ready to move on and decide what he wants to do with his life
as for Merrill, even if you romance her and have her move in she still spends most of her time in her Alienage home with the mirror. it's likely she only accepted the offer to move in to make her love happy

I don't understand why Hawke doesn't invite ANYONE to stay at the estate (romances aside). He could get Merrill out of the Alienage, Isabella a place to sleep that isn't the floor of a tavern, Fenris out from under the collapsing roof, Gamlen out of the slums, and Aveline and Donnic could have a room to themselves away from the barracks instead of snogging on her office floor.

I imagine Varric has his own house, as do Donnic and Aveline. Isabela hates hightown since its boring. Merrill is busy with her mirror. However it is true for some of them - I have an estate, surely I can have a few people living there. Especially fenris living in that crap house, if hawk and him become bros.
Gamlen is a dick sometimes, but if you talk to him during "Gamlens Greatest Treasure", before reading the note, he acts really nice and says he is proud of you. Similarly if you choose funny convo options occasionally he says some fun things. Hes still an ass, but hes family and he does love you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. The twisting camera angle made it seem like something out of a cheesy sitcom.

Except on the playthrough where I romanced Isabela as femHawke 'I've always wondered how women... do it' or whatever he says. Creepy uncle.

I still want to see the inside of Leandra's room. Seriously, three years and I can't even bring myself to open the door? C'mon, Hawke, suck it up. The dust bunnies have probably sold the furniture by now.

Leandra was boring and cliche, and I didn't think her quest was very... effective. I like when Bioware is dark and disturbing, but this totally missed the mark. Zombie!Mom was too ridiculous to take seriously for me. I was glad she died, it was the only interesting thing her character ever did - though it was absolutely expected.
Gamlen was kinda interesting, though.
Leandra was suppose to be a generic mother so everyone would relate to her. However this had the opposite effect, being generic made her unrelatable.
However, her being taken away by a murderer was emotional enough. The zombie thing wasn't as much as it was intended I expect. This is made worse by hawk showing no emotion during the death and gamlen chat afterwards.

Didnt Hawke and the sibling work a year to pay off part of GAmlens debts? I t was not just for entrance to the city right>? Didnt Gamlen also steal their inheritance? I feel for his pain, but to do that to kin you love, well, I think he prolly didnt love them, and how much would Hawke have to worry about Gamlen selling between gambling and brothels? Gamlen has a decent core to his character, but to me he has a destructive path ingoing. How many more is Hawke suppose to provide for? IDK imo, the best thing for Gamlen was to let him fidn his own feet again...
I don't think it's quite that. The year of work was allegedly to gain expensive fee into the city, as Gamlen himself could not pay for it. Gamlen just had "underground" contacts that could pay the fee. I'm really not sure if the debts included any of Gamlen's own, but I don't think it's stated. But considering they were Gamlen's contacts, he probably owed them money. Still, I don't think he did it to cheat them out, maybe just take a little advantage of an already tough situation.
And as for the inheritence thing... Yeah, Gamlen's a douchebag, but Leandra had literally run off years ago. Gamlen stayed with their dying parents and did his duty as a son, whereas Leandra didn't even come to the funeral. Gamlen felt cheated that the parents chose to give her the inheritence when he was the one that stayed. So I don't think he took it to SPITE her so much, as the fact that a) she was gone anyway, living in Lothering and
So, I don't think Gamlen didn't care about his family in his own way. He's an arse, but he's not evil. He cares somewhere... way deep down... deep, deep down.

I think Bethany mentions something about being uncomfortable with the way he would look at her. He totally strikes me as the type to perv on his 19-year-old niece.
