The 2 are so similar they are scary but I know that ME also borrows from other sci fi elements but to me ME always feels more towards Babylon 5.
In one Babylon 5 movie called - A Call To Arms the Drakh are allies of the Shadows sort of like how The Reapers and Protheans and all that are they take their revenge on Earth but since they get destory the Earth they poisioned it setting up for the B5 Crusade series.
Also if you look at Bester the Psi Cop he reminds me of TIM from Ceberus, also the Psi Corp is also almost indentical to Cerberus.
Or Tim could be like William Hedgars the Coportate guy on Mars try to kill all the telepaths with a Shadow Virus.
See in one of my favorite B5 episodes in Season 3 or 4 called "Into the Fire" Sheridan and Deleen rally all the races and the ancients into a Fighting Force and battle the Vorlons and Shadows at Coronia 6 while remaning Volrons hit Centauri Prime but are later recalled by their fleet.
See I said months ago ME 3 would be like B5 were instead of focusing on your team you now gather allies like in Babylon 5.
See in Babylon 5 Sheridan had to get thier trust or gain thier trust by doing things or showing he has equal power before they jumped on board.
I assume in ME 3 shepard must do the same. Do things, gain thier trust or show he has their same power.
My one theory on how the reapers will be destroyed is they connect the Mass Effect Relays and destory them like in Babylon 5 they used a Jump Gate and done a hyperspace jump while in the Jump Gate and it took out the Shadow.
Then they lured another one into Jupiters Gravity and killed that one. Be cool if Shepard uses the Normandy to do something similar but The Reapers probably have stronger ME Fields since thier main base was made near a Black hole.
My Other theory is that the Reapers are controled by one main Mother Reaper and the team finds out were it is located they load up a virus to shut it down and all the remaining Reapers sort of like on Independence Day.
Then it could be there is one connection a hive mind location controlling all like Harbringer at the Collector Base say Control Released you go to that place and you have to destroy it before the Reapers do even more damage around the Universe.
If all the Mass Relays were destroyed then it would take years to travel to other star systems.
In Xensoaga they done something similar by destorying that network.
I dont think they will kill off a major character like Shepard as Shepard is the main MC. That would be like trying to kill off other major game characters such as Master Chief or others it isnt going to happen.
Master Chief survived went into stasis, Shion suvived in Xenosaga, Haseo in GU and also Kite in Dot.Hack
But their have been games were the main MC does die like in Suikoden IV but that was mainly cause of the Rune of Punishment.
Or they could pull another DA 2 move and have shepard just leave without no ideas why thus setting up for future games or off shoots were he would be a cameo or a DLC character like in a MMO.
I love ME as I bought both games on Day 1. I have ME 3 preordered and I downloaded the Arrival by the way nice setup from Bioware to connect to ME 3.
I assume the reason DA 2 ended the way it did is cause of future DLC or expansions or possible DA 3.

Most of these will play a huge factor in ME 3 but I also think another one will to remeber the Cerberus soldier you find dead you find data hidden and you are asked if you want it for your self, give it to EA or to Cerberus.
Me I choose it for my self cause I had a gut feeling that Cerberus would turn on me in ME 3 now I have a trump card to use against them in ME 3.
But that data takes 1 full year to decipher.
