I think you should take off the white gloves and challenge laidlaw to a duel of pistols at ten paces.

Your honor is at stake here, and you have unshakeable demands, sir.

I'm honestly disgusted by people clamoring about how this is the op's opinion. He/she made the statement. By virtue of there not being quotes it is subjective and I'm sure the op knows that. Even if it were factual you are supposed to automatically assume it's subjective until the op produces anything concrete.

I seriously read every post stating that something is someone's opinion (unless someone actually states their view is fact when it isn't) as though that individual just learned the difference between fact and opinion. Grow up. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

He wasn't stating his opinion. He was stating the Fanbase's opinion. As part of the Fanbase, I'd love to know exactly how Laidlaw insulted us and what names he's been calling me. I think thats fair.

But as far as growing up goes, I wasn't the one demanding someone be fired over a percieved insult in a video game.

The OP would pull a sword while Laidlaw would pull a gun, one imported from the CoD fanbase he wished to bring into the DA universe. Image IPB

Nothing good lasts forever. As disappointing as DA2 turned out to be -- it only cost me $50 to realize this truth. Not a big deal.
BioWare's aging. Past its prime.
Doesn't mean I'm not gonna buy from them ever again.
Just exercise a bit more caution. Maybe don't pre-order the next game that comes out. Wait and see if it's crap.
We probably should've suspected something was amiss when they were piling on mountains of incentives to pre-order DA2 -- months before it was released.

Well lets be honest.

Everyone bashing the post is accepting mediocrity and accepting being insulted. Fair play to you. Enjoy your mediocre game and keep kissing up to bioware.

Some of us would rather not accept bad games and bad attitudes. But carry on :-)

Your definition of mediocrity may be different from others'. It sure as hell is different from my definition of mediocrity. Maybe you should stop expecting everyone in the "fanbase" to agree with you.

I wasn't insulted either. Can you post a link to where he supposedly insulted the fanbase?

The consolization had been unleashed on Dragon Age. The streamlining poured out of the lead designer's mind, clashing against the opposition at the ruins of a masterpiece. The game, was a disaster. The fans died a little inside, betrayed by their most trusted developer.

Unopposed, EA marched on the video game company of BioWare. The forums burned, and many fans were outraged. Brent Knowles, barely escaped in time...

The publisher kept its word and got them the budget -- when the deadline was agreed to.

They sailed south across the fanbase's hopes and wishes lashed by terrible critical reaction. And there they saw him: Laidlaw -- the man of change. Long ago he was part of the development team on the Jade Empire project, employees coming in from far and wide to work on a console-centric game.

Now, he's the lead designer working on Dragon Age sequels, but I use the word ( sequels ) loosely.

Start up the DA 2 demo now and you'll see what the game testers of old saw: a beat-em up action/adventure game, welcoming you.

That's where their ship landed, with all the rest...

Sure.. Sure.. Might I inquire as to what else I do and think? I can't decide for myself clearly I need you to tell me what it is I think and do. If you are not even going to say what specifically it was he said or did that insulted you so much then this thread has nothing to debate.

If he actually said he does not care about fan feedback and doesn't read fan feedback that is a cause for concern. But I'd be suprised if he actually said that. Why no link to where he supposedly said it?

Go write for Lucas on whatever SW project he's got next, he'd probably enjoy melodrama of your presentation. :)

To date, I haven't seen anything in any article that I've read that constitutes being "insulting" towards the fanbase by the BioWare devs - or at least, as part of the fanbase, I've never felt personally insulted by them. In contrast, I've seen "fans" here launching insult after insult and/or agitating for people to be fired.

It seems to me that the people who treat the game as if it were the bubonic plague are generally the ones who A) have a bad attitude and B) have been insulting other people. I've agreed with a number of criticisms (like the copy & paste caves issue), so I'm pretty sure I haven't been kissing anyone's butt. Or does liking the game despite its flaws somehow constitute kissing up to BioWare?

DA2 is better in all the ways I care about than DAO, if it's mediocre to others because they care about different things, that's not my problem.

People can dislike it, I don't care, there's certainly plenty to dislike much of which I do not care about and have never cared about - but don't try and tell me that your evaluation of the quality of a game I playing should matter to me at all and whether or not I'm "accepting mediocrity."

Firstly he insulted us with the game itself.

if you hate the game, just say you hate it. I dont think there is any dev made games to insult their customers

Then he insulted us with his comments about the "hardcore fanbase" and hints that we're all just scared of change.

Then he does another interview where he insults us saying he doesnt care what we think, he doesnt read the forums or our feedback and thinks we're all wrong.

I feel you just cavilled at what he said, and you are obviously the one who is insulting him.

They should just nuke these forums, between the tali-ban, rabid fanboys/haters its awful. The very nature of the games bioware makes does not lend itself to any debate. You think da2 is good? Great, i think its terrible. Since its completely subjective, and i absolutely hate to my very core the way in which most people present their opinions; i feel nothing positive can possibly come from these exchanges. Whether you love or hate the game you're still a ****ing douchebag when you present what you care about, or your opinion, as the only thing that matters.

Who does actually outright insult their fans anyway?
I'd say Uwe Boll, but we all know he doesn't have any fans.

Before you make disingenuous assertions about somebody you should probably have proof.

Now the following scene is going to happen in ME3:

Journalist Lady: "Commander Shepard, the community as a whole is tired of you insulting them over and over. What have you to say to this?"

Shepard: "I've had enough of your insincere fabrications!" *PUNCH*

I don't feel insulted by anyone but people who make comments like the one I just quoted here. So you don't dig the game? That's cool, though sorry you feel that way. I do dig it. Do you have a problem with that? It'd certainly seem so.

Isn't Khalisah al-bint Jilani going to get owned by Reapers? Along with Turian Councilor? (Let's see him dismiss him being decapitated)

Oh. My. God. Some people in this thread really do make me laugh. Look, I understand if you like the game, and find it as a nice fun time waster and such. But, please, please, PLEASE DO NOT say that this game is not mediocre, because the cons outweigh the pros for this game entirely. Seriously, re-used areas? Less involved conversations with companions? Plotholes galore? ALL of these things bring down this game, so NOONE should be calling a masterpiece. I understand if you are one of the people saying "Well, I can look past that..." but you cannot and should not say that this game is above average because it isn't. You only like the game, because you enjoy it for what it is.
